I'm open to suggestions - so I leave it up to you. I will comment on your designs to aid you to find the logo perfect logo.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Focus on the idea of a shifter, a changer (Shift like in shape shifter, time shifter). Think design shifter, shifter from old to new, from good to better. The ugly duckling, a butterfly hatching - but something cool, strong, smart.
Perhaps something cool and 3D, with nice gradients?

Yes, it is a think tank - but I DO NOT want to see corny light bulbs, brains, flashes etc. Also avoid car gear switcher. I don't want something that feels technical and for old guys inventing machines. We will invent new cool stuff, the next generation UIs and functions. Web 4.0.. :)

The symbol is the core of the design - the text logo can be kept quite clean.

One more thing: When we found a good design and symbol for Shifter - I will need the text part of the logo in a Swedish version as well "Omskiftare". Therefor it is a good idea to avoid using Shifters-letters in the symbol and to keep the text logo relativly simple.

Welcome! As a bonus, I can mention that the winner (if he/she wants to) will have the logo and his/her name published in Shifters first design book as an example of good graphical design.

I promise to comment and guide you through the design several times every day. May the best designer win!

Thanks for all contributions so far!

To make it easier - I think we should focus just on "Shifters" for now and when we have a winning concept, we can do the Swedish translation as well of the text logo.

Updates on graphical style:
I'm do not like the car shifter assosiation very much. Think more of idea and design shifter (like in time shifter, shape shifter etc). Also avoid arrows (feels a bit too simple and old-style).

Focus on creating a great symbol first, then a text logo matching that symbol can be created.

I don't mind a bit of a flirt with the sci-fi genre!

Thank you so far for your contributions!
I like curves, colors and round shapes. Gradients and 3D is nice. Transparency also.
But I also like strong simple logos.... It all depends on the idea and concept.

I updated the brief and added some logos/graphics for inspiration.

Thanks for the new contributions!

I would love it if it was possible to come up with logo that would show what Shifters is all about - the shift, transformation, the innovation - the move from something old to something new.
#40 #33 #41 are so far the best as they are abstract. #41 is showing a shift of some kind.

With a good idea, the logo can be made very clean and strong.
For example, TAT - the astonishing tribe - http://www.tat.se/
All they need is this litte tribe-figure.

Can any one figure out the perfect symbol/figure for a change/shifter? It very abstract, so I know it is hard to come up with something brilliant, but I'm sure you can do it!

Some nice updates there! I both like the simple and clean shape of the butterfly in #58 and the abstract form in #61. Feel free to use any colors - now there is a lot of blue and green.

Again, focus on the "shift" in the logo, to show change, innovation, improvement.

Great job so far!

Thanks for the new updates everyone!

Just to be clarify - don't focus too much in the butterfly. Got a lot of suggestions with this. I only mean it as an example how to think.

#93 is a very good example of free-thinking and #105 is a great idea! Try to come up with very different and original concepts like that (and of course - don't copy these ;)

Short comments on all the best logos so far:

I love the skilled work in #99, a good thinking with the nest of lines, #102 got movement, shift and colors - qute nice! #78 just got amazing colors and composition - but the idea is not so creative. Great text font also. #105 the idea makes me smile - good creative thinking! A bit to friendly and toy-ish in style. #64 still a great composition - clean and clear with nice colorscale. Good creative use of negative space to create nice pattern! #94 nice burst effect. A bit to much detail, but it kind of grows on you. #93 got a wonderful sci-fi style, and it makes you wonder what the logo is. Mysterious stuff from the future. Very nice thought. Perhaps a bit to plain - but I can't seem to put my finger on what it is that is lacking. #84 #55 nice effect with good energy - but a bit to common in style. #58 Love the simplicty - but shifters isn't a butterfly company like that. Does not show the shift, or communicate that the company is a think tank. More like soft soap or something.

Thank you all for the superb work so far! I would rate the best logos so far between out of 7-8 of 10. Where 10 is the best logo possible to make, ever, in the whole universe :)

Starting to check what friends and collegues think about the logos - so the rankings are going to vary abit now - re-arranging a few times before I get all the input. I'm also hoping for some updates that will affect the ranking.

Thanks for all good designs, and all the effort so far!

Okay - small update. I think that the most popular logo will be one that shows the change, something living.

Not too much IT - but okay if it is a bit sci-fi.

I havn't seem any really good suggestions on the butterfly leaving the cocoon yet - hanging up side down.

Other possible things to explore - living organisms that can be used for change - dragon fly hatching - coming up from water, or better a lizard or dinosour leaving the egg, or the first animal leaving the ocean, the first steps on land.
Something born, a big change.

Feeling a bit stressed over the time running out ;) I extended the time one week, but I will probably not need all that time. It's late friday evening here in Sweden, and I need go through the last suggestions with my collegues on Monday.
