Our Ideas & Additional Information
FYI: WE WILL HAVE TO END THE JUDGING PHASE ON NOVEMBER 1 BECAUSE OUR BOSS IS TRAVELING AFTER, SO THE CONTEST WILL END EARLY AND WE WILL PICK THE WINNER BY NOVEMBER 1.
First off, the logo has to look good in multiple sizes. It is primarily important for our business card, where it will be 1 inch x 1 inch in size (approximate) so it has to be readable at that size. Also, it has to be readable in black and white.
Please be sure to check out our website to get an overview of what we do and what we stand for and try to get an understanding of Hawaii as a state (not just a tourist destination). Our website is currently being re-designed so it is still pretty plain, but should give you a good overview of what we do. The link is below.
Elements to include in the logo:
- Mountainous landscape, stream(s), rural settlement/village (maybe not actual houses, but just a faint birds eye view showing dots and lines, SEE ATTACHED AIR PHOTO), company name, optional: ocean connected to stream. The boss always says certain designs are "too literal" or "too abstract", so it is important to find a balance between that and hard/softness of shapes.
- NO circular or other geometric shapes for the overall logo
- Forget the "TSI" and the S as the river, he changed his mind about that. I will delete our preliminary logo from the contest brief.
- The company name should be TOWNSCAPE INC. with the "INC." being smaller and more subtle, no "TSI"
- Colors should be green for mountains and blue for streams, plus whatever else you think matches the design. Avoid red, orange, purple, pink
Our company name "Townscape" does not exactly make clear what it is we do, as we neither design towns, nor landscapes. This name was carried over from another company on the east coast. When I said to incorporate the idea of a "town" or "community" into our preliminary logo design, this was meant to be in a natural environment (not a city/skyscraper environment). We don't want our logo to look urban, but natural. Below is a link to an organization with a nice logo that conveys something similar to us:
http://www.huihawaii.org/
I also encourage you to look at the following website explaining some Hawaiian concepts with a beautiful graphic depicting am ahupua'a (ancient land management system going from mountain to ocean). We aren't looking for a painting like that of course, but a logo that reflects those ideas. Thanks!
