What We Do
We are a motorcycle video website that offers completely original content featuring all types of motorcycles and aimed at everyone with a passion for motorcycling.
Industry
Internet
Color Preferences
Please no purple, no green, no brown, no grey. Also this logo will never be depicted in black and white always in color and always on a white or light colored background.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Please note that we are not limiting our audience to the custom chopper motorcycle crowd. Because of this, there are several symbols that we do NOT want featured in our logo as they are typically strongly associated with the chopper crowd. So please, no smoke, no flames, no chrome, no skulls, no pistons, no wrenches, no burnouts and no women in bikinis. You get the idea.

Please also note that the logo is for our website's banner, located near the top of every page and we have a specific size canvas or palette that we want the logo designed for. The exact size canvas that the logo will fit on is 721 pixels wide by 172 pixels high. That is a width-to-height ratio of 4.2 - to -1. See www.themotochannel.com/logoauction.html for a better look.

Because the website will feature many different types of motorcycles (every single variety), any motorcycle, either whole or in part, featured in the logo should not be a specific type of motorcycle, but more a generic depiction of one. That's not to say that you must incorporate an entire motorcycle. Perhaps only a part of a motorcycle, or perhaps just a motorcyclist or the gear that a motorcyclist wears: helmet, gloves, goggles, boots. We really aren't sure what the logo should look like, just what it shouldn't look like.

Although the logo is for a web site, Please do NOT put ".com" or "dot com" on the logo.

Although the website audience will be mostly male, there will be some female visitors so please do not make the logo overly masculine with themes like skulls, pistons, flames or women in bikinis. The main attributes of the logo that we want to convey are action, passion and excitement, and not aggression and masculinity.

Discussion

We were very specific about the shape of the logo, and even put a link to a page made just for this auction. It should be rectangular, approximately 4-to-1 width to height ratio. We do not want a logo of any other shape. No circular, no square, no diamond shape, no triangular shaped logos. Thanks!

Also no web 2.0 logos. We do not like that look.

Also, no references to video players, like Play buttons.

Also, do not use too much black. We are looking for a colorful logo that will never be in black and white.

Also, do not use the acronym TMC. The only lettering should be spelling out The Moto Channel. As to whether it should be all upper case, or upper case and lower case, or large upper case and small upper case, we will leave that up to you. Also, whether the word "MOTO" should be distinguished from the words "THE" and "CHANNEL" either by the size of the font, the type or design of the font or the color of the font, we leave that up to you.

#12 We have no idea what your graphic is but it certainly doesn't convey a passion for motorcycling to us. It looks like a wrench, which we specifically noted that we do not want in our logo. The font is too basic.

No fruity colors.

And any graphic, such as a motorcycle or a motorcyclist or a part of a motorcycle, should complement the lettering, no distract from it.

I haven't "trashed" any of the submissions (unless you mean putting them in the "we prefer other designs" category, in which case yes, actually, I have trashed all up to this point). I can't tell you what is a good colourful design, only that one colour is certainly not colourful and I haven't liked the submissions I've seen yet. But I remain optimistic. This site has been around several years.

We have posted on our website examples of motorcycle art that we feel capture the action, passion, and excitement of motorcycling (which are the top three things to communicate through our logo) in order to clarify what we are looking for in a Pictoral Mark.

The page link is:

http://www.themotochannel.com/logoauctionmotorcycleart.html

We think that IF you design a similar image (remember that you are not limited to these examples), it should be located to the left of the words, as they each depict a motorcyclist moving to the right, which would draw attention towards the words "The Moto Channel".

Please do not feel limited by these examples. We are open to any and every suggestion you might have. Thanks!
