Great comment Jeff S!
There are some really great designs on this site, but very seldom does a client pick a "logo". They seem to go for shiny, colorful, 3d, reflective, gradated, complicated illustrations.
Look at the "Styles that we are interested in" samples. These are logos. They are readable at small sizes, economic in form and color and highly memorable because of their simplicity. These logos are predictably easy and cost-effective to reproduce across all media, and all sizes. They can be cut in metal to be place on the sides of buildings, embroidered on hats, and stamped onto pens.
The current choice, as cute and shiny and illustrative as it is... is just not a logo. Its components could be used peripherally as complimentary brand and identity items.
Unfortunately a lot of clients have to find out the pitfalls of their choices later rather than sooner because no one takes the time to educate them.
The closest choice I see here is #14 (and similar submissions) by kernball. The name says "Flying Pig" so you don't need to illustrate a flying pig. kernball has submitted a _concept_ not just an obvious image. It's clever, it's easy to remember... it's just brilliant. Great work.
This is a fun contest Jeff S! Congrats on your business!
