Our Ideas & Additional Information
This is for a general variety store selling merchandise at specific one, two and three dollar price points. The logo and signage, while being relatively simplistic, are extremely important to the concept not only for purposes of branding but also to educate customers as to the proper way to shop with us. Instead of using price stickers, we will be using colored dots to represent each price. We will probably go with red for $1, green for $2 and blue for $3 but I’m willing to listen to other suggestions. Let me know if you think different colors, or a different order to these colors, would work (although I think red should definitely represent $1 as that's our main price and red is strongest).
I envision three large dots with a 1, 2 and 3 in the center of the dots representing the same price. While the dots are of key importance to the logo, “Dollar” must also be strong, so as to communicate that this is a dollar concept store. “Stores” is of lesser importance. You could make it smaller, but of course if it fits your design it could be the same size. I’m up in the air as to whether “Dollar Stores” should be in a fourth color or use one of the original three, probably red, or some other combination. Some of the designs have used black in certain spots and it looks great but it now occurs to me that it might not work for our sign (unless you can come up with a creative way to make it work) because it is back-lit. So we need to stick with bright colors that glow with the light behind them.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The shopping center we are in requires that our signs use "Channel Letters" so for purposes of signage, each dot and each letter must stand separately from the others. I’ve seen some great designs with dots or letter touching each other so I brought this up again with the landlord. He seems adamant the dots and letter stand separately.
