What We Do
We map underground utilities and make the data accessible and actionable on Google Maps so as to maximize safety, reduce costs & utility conflicts, and maintain business continuity.

Color Preferences
I don't have a color preference, though for the "common associations" described below, some colors, like red, seem out of place in this application. Similarly, don't use black or purple. Green might work, but it may connote an environmental theme that we don't represent.

Taking that into account, preferred colors would be more "mainstream" like grey, orange, blue, white, yellow and possibly green.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
A civil engineering asset management program that maps and displays all available information about an underground utility system. Presented in an easy to read visual format, this program allows owners, asset managers, planners, maintenance personnel and contractors to quickly locate, view, read and print records about any underground system or aspect of a system.

The program has a multitude of uses, is user friendly and does not require the purchase of proprietary software. Initially based on existing records, the program can be expanded to include field-verification of utilities, master planned utilities, expansion of utility systems or upgrades to existing systems. One feature of the program allows users to open files in Google Earth and while moving around the property use a GPS locator to visualize locations of underground utilities.

No matter the age and history of your property’s underground infrastructure, you can now have all known information stored in a convenient program. Record drawings, survey monuments, hands-on maintenance information, records of testing and performance information, depreciation / replacement cost spreadsheets - the program brings it all together.

Thanks for the first logos dodihanz. Looking forward to seeing what the designers post. I will be reviewing the designs and ranking them tomorrow (1/6) morning.

Here is the feedback after our first logo review:

* Since our business is not, strictly speaking, a pure GIS company, we want to play down GIS in the logo, not highlight it. That is, it shouldn't be a separate color, it should not be prominent. If possible, the GIS element should be more subtle.

* We favor logos that have the ability to incorporate (1) the company name, (2) an icon, and (3) the tagline in any combination or as standalone elements.

* We favor logos that would display well in color, of course, but also in black & white.

* We think that a compass icon might work, but we want to avoid any association with "old fashioned." If the compass could be more high tech, that would be great.

* We liked the pipe or network connotation found with "GIS" on #12. If that could be further explored we would appreciate seeing some ideas.

* After seeing the logos, we found that orange or yellow was not popular with our group.

We will do a similar review again tomorrow (1/7) and again on Thursday (1/8) at 4 PM pacific time.

We look forward to seeing more of your exceptional creativity. Thank you!

I had a couple of other notions that I will throw out to expand the ideas...

1. Make a logo of the company name, but made of pipe segments as with http://media.merchantcircle.com/30254658/kana-pipeline-logo-02_full.jpeg

2. Show a cross section of a campus (as with http://instantlogos.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Post-378.jpg or http://comps.canstockphoto.com/can-stock-photo_csp13803657.jpg) but with a network of underground utilities.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

For the network of underground utilities, I had in mind a series of multi-colored connecting lines something like http://duino4projects.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Arduino-MP3-Player-Schematic.jpg. I haven't run the idea by the team yet, but will do so tomorrow at 4 PM.

Thanks,

Feedback from the team:

* The team liked examples where "GIS" was made more subtle or hidden by way of making it a graphic as with #36.

* One of our team liked examples where the word "Underground" was split and stacked with the word "Under" on top and "ground" underneath.

If you have specific questions about different designs, feel free to reach out and ask.

In a previous note I suggested that designers should avoid the inverted teardrop. Since that time, the team has learned more and now they actually like it. Feel free to incorporate it into your designs as you see fit. Sorry for the false signal.

In the original guidelines I suggested we stay away from red, but it appears that the team now likes that color. Designers take note.

Thank you for your continuing submissions. My team will meet again in 19 hours (10 AM california/pacific time) to evaluate any new logos.

Cheers!
