Thank you for your submissions. There were elements we liked about your concept so we picked one to be in the ranked category. We like the fact that there were three distinct elements (name, tagline, icon) that could be use independently or together.
You will see from my general comments, however, that there are some things we would like to see changed. For example, we don't want to use the inverted tear drop symbol and we want to play down the prominence of "GIS." On a personal note, I wonder if there is a simpler way to convey the map since it is very prominent in your design and could be more subtle in both size and design.
Please see my general comments to all designers for further guidance.
Nice to hear from you. The team wanted to narrow the field to those logos they thought most closely reflected what they were looking for, so some designs didn't make the cut. Sorry about that. The reasons that your newer designs didn't make it was that the icons didn't add clarity to what UndergroundGIS does. In fact, some didn't understand the icons at all. One of our team liked the "text" imagery that you have in entries #9, #10, #41, and #61, but I don't think his interest is strong enough to pull that imagery through to the finals.
As I said, some of the imagery looked like it was just forced geometry that didn't necessarily convey a meaning (e.g., circular arrow, sideways teardrop, etc.).
The team is liking images of networking or schematics. The current top choice (#4) is liked because the icon has meaning to the team members (location on a map with data coming from it).
I hope the feedback helps. You are a talented artist. The team had to make some choices and sadly some designs have to be removed. Please consider this feedback and the general feedback I offered and see if some other inspiration doesn't strike you.
Rick about the "teardrop" in my first entries, it is a location pin, very common to represent locations as you can see in google maps for example. I was to post this message when you just mentioned it in the public comments, what a coincidence :)
Honestly I am very disappointed with the criteria of the ranking, I think my last designs have something positive to contribute to your project but all were sent to non prefer section.
Anyway. I respect your decision and good luck with the contest.
I'm sorry to disappoint you. The last meeting was conducted in a rather rushed fashion and the team didn't want to dwell on each design. I think there are a couple they like and when they see others that don't measure up (to them) they quickly discharge the designs.
Thank you for the well wishes. I wish you well with your future contests!
I wish you had not withdrawn all of your logos. I wanted to bring back one of them to put it in the top 10, but alas, that is no longer possible for me.
