Color Preferences
Open to various color combos. Viewing Nick Gaetono's Page of 'Romantic Realism' novel covers may help: http://www.cordair.com/gaetano/ (my favorites are 'Atlas Shrugged', 'Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal', and 'For the New Intellectual')
Our Ideas & Additional Information
***PLEASE BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD AND VIEW THE LOGO SKETCH - I'D LOVE TO SEE IT POLISHED UP, COLORIZED, ETC.)*** I love romantic realism, or at least as it appears in the form of the Ayn Rand novel covers by Nick Gaetano: http://www.cordair.com/gaetano/ (my favorites are 'Atlas Shrugged' and 'For the New Intellectual', although I could do without the complete male nudity, lol).
I am leaning towards a logo in this style However, I am completely open to being swayed by other great designs. /// I have uploaded a file of a logo in sketched stage that I am interested in having finished up, but I assure you that I am also open to other ideas. /// The logo's primary visibility will be in eBay listings, www.thebookplace.us, and in that eBay store. In time, the eBay store and listings should look more like this (an HTML overhaul is needed right now):
http://reubenlara.com/ebay/ (see mock eBay listing a few lines down the page). OR THIS: http://www.reubenlara.com/ebaysamples/svdtoys/ OR BEST EXAMPLE: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370312110954&refid=store // Also, the character holding the paintbrush at the top of the page in the link below is pretty cool in my book (no pun intended)... definitely a style I like... that 20s/30s look: http://reubenlara.com/ebay/ I like that look but I am also drawn to a more detailed character. I could go either way on that particular element... just whatever looks the best. /// One more link: Awesome. Nice work! What about capitalizing T, B, and P or doing “small caps” (like in Microsoft Word where it is all caps but the first letter of each word is just a little bigger)? Also, how about making the character look more like the characters of Nick Gaetano? Perhaps by losing the shielded face? Making the body sleeker and less cartoonish while still keeping him well-built? Here is a link that may help… not saying it’s perfect but shows the ‘Mercury Head’ without it being shielded: http://www.nickgaetano.com/Ayn_Rand/fullsize/MERCURY_HEAD_fs.jpg

Thanks for the great entries, everyone! KIB647 (Entries #5 and #6) and MONSE777 (Entries 8-12), thank you for progressing the logo idea I had. I love what you’ve done. KIB647, the shadow adds a nice element. The work with the text looks great. I can respect the black and white of the book and sun, but I think I would like it more if the whole image were colorized. MONSE777, I love the overall look… the sun rays are nice. Having the sun included is definitely the way to go. Thanks for that, KIB647! The character and overall look in MONSE777’s work is too cartoonish for my taste and needs more sharpness and detail… more like KIB647’s. I’d like to see what the text would look like capitalized like, “The Book Place” and also with ‘small caps’, where all letters are caps, but the first letters are slightly larger. As for the text color, I may have a hard time deciding between black and a color. I almost like both equally, but it at least needs to stand out like entry #12 if it is color (has black outline, etc.). As for the style of the sun rays, I’d like to see what they would look like being more like Nick Gaetano’s style (see link in brief). As for entries #13 and #14, those are awesome! I just don’t think it strikes me quite as much as the others. Same with #s6 and 7… those look great. Just not quite what I’m going for.

As I've emailed some of the contestants about, I like the sun rays as seen in the #55 - #61, largely inspired by the links I posted in the brief. I also like all caps on every word and I prefer that the letters not be so tall that they are hard to make out when the logo is pretty small (as it will be in eBay listing headers, etc.). I also like blues and greens, so that being the sun/rays color is great. ‘THE’ and ‘BOOK PLACE’ need to be similar, if not the same, in font and appearance.
