We Need:

The Logo will be used as masthead of an A4 magazine and website and other corporate materials.

The logo style needs to be reflected in other sub headings throughout the magazine.

The logo needs to jump out when competing for visibility among many other magazines on the shelf.

You need to take into account that the logo will be displayed on an ever changing full page A4 magazine image.

Whilst our core brand is 'milk' we would ideally like to see some examples of logo should also incorporate "don't forget the" i.e. "don't forget the" above the logo. We are flexible with this though - so if it looks better without these additions, we would rather see your best designs.

There also needs to be a secondary sub-masthead flexible for regional variations. for your design purposes the word "Gippsland" (upper or lower based on best design style).

re #1

Hi Glendon,

Thanks for your quick response. As a general point, we don't think the url as part of the logo looks good, so we have dropped this from the brief.

We would love to see a more designed logo (like your Foxy logo - rather than just cool font/text).

We are unsure whether to have a logo with a transparent background so the cover image shows through (like you have done), or a block-type logo with a solid background that stands alone above the front page image.

Would be happy to be guided by you designers who have worked with magazine covers as to what is best to work with long-term.

Thanks!

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has entered - we are very impressed with the standard of entry and very excited about the top 5.

We find the first three ranked ones to be VERY close in our opinion.

We've put #20 first as it hit the brief perfectly, has a sense of urgency, is clear to read and is eye catching. It will also work across different media without having to be altered. Our only concern is that 'milk' is the brand name, and we're not sure how the logo will work without 'don't forget the' if we wanted to use it in that way.

#18 is a very close second. We think it again hit the brief, is stylish and more feminine than #20 and would work very well as a masthead.

We love #7 and think it is a fabulous design. We're a little unsure that it is totally clear to read (in the first instance).

#10 is a great design, but not as dynamic as #20.

#2 is awesome, but we're not convinced it would work as the branding/masthead on the cover of a magazine - as it stands. We feel the word 'milk' might be a little hard to read 'as is'.

As a general comment, (esp dapc79 and #12) the logos with the reversed 'K' we find make it a little hard to read in the first instance, and we don't want potential purchasers to have to look twice at it. We want the name to shout out from the shelf immediately.

Generally comments: the logo needs to have the word 'Gippsland' included (as a footer?). This word will need to be changed for regional variation, so a useable font would be handy.

Thanks again for your efforts.

We continue to be totally thrilled with the fantastic designs coming in. It's well exceeded our expectations - so thank you all. We are having a very hard time ranking them as they're SO GOOD!

Generally speaking we are finding logos that are variations of fonts less interesting, and prefer something that incorporates a logo / image / shape / point of interest which will help define our brand.

We are also preferring logos that are very clear to read (as we have no market presence and need to be clear at launch).

Please also note that we are still very flexible with colours as the logo may need to change according to the cover image of each issue.

If you have any further questions please feel free to post here or email bec (at) manjra (dot) com.

Thanks to each and every on of you for your time and effort, it's very much appreciated.

You're not wrong!
We are having such a hard time deciding. The standard is so fantastic, and there are at least 10 logos we'd be happy with. We're extremely impressed.
