What We Do
The Emerald Bay Alumni is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide Camp Emerald Bay (a Boy Scout camp on Catalina Island, California) with volunteer, material, and financial support through the fellowship of current and former staff, campers, and friends of the camp.

Emerald Bay is probably NOT what you may envision when you think of a "traditional" boy scout camp. We are more liberal, irreverent, and mischievous than, well, pretty much any other boy scout camp!

Color Preferences
We don't have a specific color palette in mind, but don't want the logo to be black & white, either. Some color would be good...
Our Ideas & Additional Information
One of the unique elements that the alumni all share is a very close bond from working and living together on the island. Many of the staff form lifelong friendships from their summer experiences. Working at Emerald Bay is life-changing, and is carried with us the rest of our lives.

The camp has a long history of PIRATE and NAUTICAL imagery. The camp staff patches and neckerchiefs usually include a pirate image. We would like to continue this tradition, and honor our heritage, while providing an "updated' pirate along those lines.

IMPORTANT! Please visit our "Museum" online at:
http://www.emeraldbayalumni.org/eba.php?p=museum --- Be sure to check out the neckerchiefs and patches. This should give you an idea of the historical imagery we are working with and foundation upon which we must build.

We want our new logo to be consistent with our former designs but it definitely needs to be updated!

One logistic thing we didn't mention in the brief: Although we want the logo to be color(ful), it also needs to look good when printed in black & white (grayscale). Thanks!

Hey Everyone --

Let's switch gears from what we've seen so far, and focus on ICON + TEXT, like in the "Pictoral Mark" examples.

No more emblems, please! :)

Thanks,
Andrew

Hey Everyone--

The organization's name is "Emerald Bay Alumni" -- the word "Alumni" needs to have the same weight as the "Emerald Bay" (especially sine the camp just goes by the name "Emerald Bay" -- will help avoid confusion).

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi All,

Just a quick update -- we had some scheduling setbacks, and needed to add some time to the contest.

We're currently having internal discussions of how best we want to proceed, and will report back to you as soon as we can with more specific info.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi Everyone,

We have used one specific "Pirate with his arms crossed" image over the years, and one good option for our new logo is to take that pirate and "update" him to a new, fresh look.

Please take a look at this PDF of our newsletter. On the top-left corner of page 2 you'll see the pirate with his arms crossed:
http://www.emeraldbayalumni.org/phpBB2/attachments/chron_summer_08_769.pdf

It doesn't need to be the exact same pirate--but it's the same kind of "look" we're going for... just updated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hey Everyone,

As you can problem tell, we're really loving the "updated" versions of our original pirate. Nobody has quite perfected how to relate the pirate to the text yet, though. We don't really want to keep it all locked together--or at the very least, it needs to stay flexible so we can *just use the pirate* and/OR *just use the name.*

Again, we also want "Alumni" to be as prominent as "Emerald Bay."

Thanks!

Sorry, I meant to say "As you can probably tell..." :)
