None of these are really grabbing us. They look too much like lapel pins or buttons. The designs don't really say anything about us, other than having the anchor or skull & crossbones icons...but those aren't sophisticated enough.
We'd rather have the anchor or the skull and crossbones or the ship's wheel BE the icon -- rather than be lost in the middle of it.
The "button with a drop shadow outline" look just doesn't do it for me, sorry.
Hey thanks for the feedback... its nice to get a better idea of what you are looking for as most competition holders dont give you alot of feedback. I will have a re-think and come up with a new idea.
#10 -- Too much reliance on drop shadow.... this feels like it could be for any nautical organization if you simply put a different name on the ribbon. Needs to be more personalized and capture more of a feel of our particular institution.
Did you look at the "museum" pages, and in particular the "patchboard" on our website? (The patches are worn on the staff and scout uniforms, on the left breast pocket. The're usually about 3" in diameter.)
Thanks for starting to go with ICON + TEXT. I think that's going to work a lot better for us. Not sure what is going on with the fleur de lis... it looks like a Rorschach blot. I like the direction this is headed, though, since it's a bit classier.
Imagery or symbols that we like: Pirate (but not cheesy Disney pirates). Skull & Crossbones. Crossed Swords. Ships. Anchors. Treasure Chests.
Poke around our website and hopefully that will give you a sense of things, too.... http://emeraldbayalumni.org/
Lol the bit above the swords was supposed to be a scout logo... I saw it on one of the patches on your website and thought it looked good, but ill change it if you dont like it. Ill try some more different images + text tomorrow then. Thanks for the comments.
The word "Alumni" needs to have the same prominence as "Emerald Bay". The full name is "Emerald Bay Alumni" and is referred to with the full name, or just "EBA" for short. (If someone says "EB" they mean the camp, not the alumni group... so anytime we have initials, it's EBA).
I'll get you more specific feedback on the designs later today.
