I edited the brief a little, but I will do my best to help refine things.
+ I am looking for a logo combination of text and an abstract mark, not an emblem or a badge (which many submissions have been so far)
+ By web 2.0, I am referring more to the context in which the logos are used. My understanding of web 2.0, as far as branding goes, refers to logos that are simple but distinctive. Often these logos make creative marks with very little room and space due to the nature of their usage. Although "Brand Marinade" is not a web 2.0 technology, etc. the usage of the mark will need to be confined to small spaces at times. Hence, it needs to be simple enough to scale down while remaining distinctive and comprehensible. This is an interesting link on web 2.0 design,
http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/web-2.0-design-style-guide.php+ Vintage. When I think of vintage, I think of textures and fonts. The logo should be built and the vintage should be part of the final touch to add some character to it. I really like entry #19 by A-ha but restructured as a wordmark plus an abstract mark rather than an emblem. The usage of a vintage font is great, but it needs to be scalable (marinade will get lost) and I do not get the luxury of a brand mark.
Here's a little about the business and the concept of Brand Marinade.
+ I am will be working with various popular hip-hop artists - managing, designing, producing and fulfilling their merchandising efforts. They have their own brands established/establishing and all I am doing is helping them extend their brands into new areas. Sort of adding some new flavor (and revenue stream) to their existing brands. Just like adding a marinade to some chicken or a steak - it gives the meat just a little more flavor.
+ I will also be consulting with clothing companies, helping with their overall execution of their business. The nuts and bolts. They know how to brand themselves and market, but I come in with ways to refine their business model from operations to sales channels. Again, just adding a little flavor to their already established brands.
My logo needs to convey a little of that if possible. I am looking for something designed simply with the web 2.0 design concepts but with an added flavor of vintage - as though it's been marinating for some time.
Hope that helps you wrap your brains around the concept a little more.
