As an aid to designers, here is an explanation of our name.

Blue Badge is a term used internally and informally at Microsoft. Employees of Microsoft have ID badges that are predominantly Microsoft-blue. Non-employee vendors wear orange badges. So, when a Microsoft person asks, "Are you a blue badge?" they are asking if you are a real, full-time Microsoft employee.

To outsiders, it means nothing; it is just a name that is easy to pronounce and spell. To insiders, it says, "I am one of you."

All of us at Blue Badges LLC were once blue badges at Microsoft.

We are quickly ranking the initial entries so as to give some sense of our feelings about designs.

For the prize we are offering, we expect that the winner will create a truly original logo, and not use any "canned clip art" from their portfolio. For initial design concept purposes, we will consider entries that used clip art type elements, but the ultimate winner will be more refined and original.

Also, we are hoping that the designers will experiment more, and think creatively. Even our own crude original logo had some characteristics that no one here has yet explored. We will give more specific direction later in the contest, but for now we do not want to limit your creativity by imposing our own design sense.

Be creative! Be bold! Be professional! Have fun!

We are not yet seeing much color variety. We said we wanted to include Blue, and you all have done that. But the only other colors we are seeing are white and black (other than the Microsoft Office logo, which we cannot use because it is trademarked).

While a simple pallette of blue, white, and black could be a winner, we want you to know that you are welcome to use other colors. Just don't make it a "Google" of colors!

We have moved one slider a little toward masculine. Our customers' decision-makers are more often men, although the people we work with when we are engaged are fairly evenly split between men and women.

We have decided that we do not want a logo that looks anything like the Microsoft Office logo. We appreciate all of the very creative ideas that have played on the Microsoft Office motif, but our decision is final in this regard.

We do not want any of you to put more effort into such designs for us.

Thank you !

I have removed one of the LC after extensive discussions with the CH. I believe they have good understanding of the issues, and definitely care about the outcome here.
