Hi Harvest, subtle is probably the hardest kind of logo to do. To me, subtle does not mean timid, a logo can be very strong in making an impression on someone, but it can do it without being heavy-handed. In fact, logos logos that make a subltle reference to the essence of the company are the most poweful.
Given our statement about taking the web apart and putting it back together, a not-so-subtle approach would be to put the 'web' part in the form of puzzle pieces. There are likely far more powerful and subtle ways of conveying that--but we have not come up with one. But I'm sure you guys will.
