What We Do
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer creating the highest quality images to the most discerning clientele.

Events
Color Preferences
My original attempt at a logo can be seen on the images on my blog: http://markmartinezphotography.wordpress.com .
I really loved the use of the spectrum because it symbolized non-discrimination and the idea that all people are equal. However, it was universally panned by my peers in the industry as too loud and "looking like a 70's snowboarding company". I would still welcome the use of the spectrum in some way but perhaps with more subtlety.

Because this logo will be used as a watermark on images that I post online to various forums as well as being my company identity it must be MAINLY black and/or white and/or silver. But not necessarily entirely black and white. So, other colors that MAY be included would be my other favorite colors: navy blue and lavender.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
UPDATE: I realized that I did not give much information to work with in terms of ideas for an icon which could be integrated into the logo design. Aside from pictorial references to a camera's aperture (which is perfectly fine, btw) being a photographer alone does not suggest much. Therefore, let me suggest some options related to weddings: interlinked wedding rings, a bouquet, a silhouette of a bride, perhaps even a pair of hearts stylized from the beginning or ending letter of my name? Hope some of these help!

Also still interested in the possibility of integrating the spectrum from my original logo into this new design and I haven't seen any attempts yet. Anyone game?

See my blog for my current logo:

One big problem with my current logo is that it is waaaay to long. I need something more compact so that it can be used as a watermark on my images but not overpower the image.

I like the way this photographer uses the all white version of his logo to watermark his images:
http://hassasphotography.blogspot.com/

I would like to be able to do the same with mine :)

The most important thing to know is that in the wedding photography industry your name and how it is perceived is everything. I am going after a VERY high end clientele so I need a logo that can be put alongside names like Versace and other high end designers whose name alone conveys quality and exclusivity.

#12 is nice but the font does not say "high end, exclusive, etc." as outlined in the brief

13 and 14 - the "M" symbol feels art deco - again doesn't fit my goals for the design

#5 is interesting - can I see Navy blue , silver and lavender as the colors of the blocks making up the abstact aperture symbol? Or perhaps the primaries - blue, red , yellow. or maybe a spectrum effect somehow? Also the font feels art deco and I need something more classic

Thank you!

In general, I need something classic - think versace, hugo boss, escada, gucci , prada . It needs to look expensive and timeless.

#9 is also interesting but I think if I am going to have script I would rather it be just an incomprehensible mess with my full name is a clean font below or beside it so people know what it says.

Perhaps simply a very messy script "MM"?

#15 has a nice look to it. Again, not crazy about the font for my name - too art deco I need something more classic. Can I see the symbol in color? Possible color schemes would be: 1. Navy blue, lavender, silver, white 2. primary colors - blue, yellow, red, white 3. a spectrum ( rainbow )

#16 Font still not what I am looking for. Also the MM seems unnecessary since my name is clearly legible. In this case make the MM a lot more abstract so that it serves as an icon.

#17 I really like this. The font for "Martinez" is simple and elegant - a keeeper! BUT we need to do something else with the "Mark". I would almost like it better if it were simply removed. That will be a last resort however since there are a LOT of photographers with the last name Martinez. Lets give the "mark" some impact in a way that integrates it with the rest of the logo.

#20, #21, #22, #23 "Martinez" font perhaps too simple - doesn't suggest much of anything. and the "mark" while suitable illegible does not suggest anything artistic - almost looks like a child wrote it. I like the lines above and below the name. Maybe we can bring back the spectrum treatment for these like my original logo?

#18 and #19 are cool also. I like the idea of an icon along with the name we just need one that means something. Perhaps a globe or a set of hands - something to suggest my belief in equality for all? or perhaps a pair of stylized M's? Also the "mark" in these seems like an afterthought.

I recently edited the brief to include the following:

GENERAL UPDATE: I would like to add one more idea to the list of possible icon themes. My wife and I were married in Hawaii and we both fell in love with the hibiscus flowers we found there. The flower itself has a beautiful shape with a lot of character and I would welcome icon designs featuring this flower. Thank you again to everyone who has participated in this contest - the turnout and quality of the designs has far exceeded my expectations.
