What We Do
We are creating a web service that makes reading and working with SEC filings easier.

The SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) filings are financial report documents that the US public companies are obligated to file periodically and also on certain events. The 10-K form is one of the most important since it contains the yearly report. Still, there are many other forms like the 10-Q which is the quarterly report.

The SEC filing reports are very long and complex documents. The purpose of our software is to facilitate the process of reading them and making it easier even for non-professional investors to understand the data.

More info on what the SEC filing here can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEC_filing.

Financial
Color Preferences
Please do NOT make navy + red. Any other options are welcome. The logo should work as black&white only (not grey-scale). Even though the full color version will be used mostly, we also need the logo to work on B&W print.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We need the logo to be icon+text. Ideally the icon should be smartly merged/embedded with the text. The logo should work best in a horizontal layout.

Preferably the text should use an authored typography. The "Live" part should be more prominent and the "10-K" part relatively muted. This is because while the 10-K SEC filing is probably the most important one it's not the only one. To mute the "10-K" part of the logo you can play with different font weight, thickens and font face. Do not make it simply smaller or faded.

The icon is extremely important. It has to be smart and clearly communicate the industry we are in - reading financial data and reports in a convenient way. We are not looking for a trivial icon. It has to be smart and original while it has to be obvious and immediately communicate the message. A book, a sheet of paper or other trivial representations of a report and reading don't work. A bull and a lion are also not wanted. The characteristics we target are:
- Clever and original icon that clearly communicates the purpose
- Simple and obvious while not being trivial

We would like something that is associated with finance from first sight. The font in entries #1 - #4 is not very appropriate. It can be serif, but not that "handwritten".

Entries #5 - #8 use an abstract icon which can not be easily and directly associated with finance and the other ideas we want to convey. In all from #1 - #8 the "10K" part is not muted enough.

Entries #11 and #13 are good because they symbolize finance but still they are too trivial. We don't want an icon of book or a sheet of paper.

GENERAL FEEDBACK TO ALL DESIGNERS

Thank you all for your nice work. We are exited to see your suggestions and we are looking forward to see more. I would like to give you some feedback to help you being more efficient.

On this stage we are not looking to get a particular logo but to find a designer who can provide smart and original ideas and to achieve the goals we set. All the other details beyond the original idea and concept can be refined on the later stages of the contest. We don't need 10 slight variations of a logo which is trivial in it's nature but rather we would like to see several completely different concepts each being well thought and original. We would like to see at least two or three completely different concepts from each designer.

PLEASE READ THE BRIEF CAREFULLY. We have put a significant amount of time to define that brief. Please do your part and read it carefully.

- Avoid using a book and a sheet of paper - this was stated explicitly in the brief.
- Don't use just and only a stock graph to symbolize finance. This is also a symbol we DO NOT prefer as well as any other symbol which is too common and trivial. Also, the 10-K reports are almost entirely textual and there are no graphs there. Logo #34 is highly ranked because it symbolizes finance, investment and analysis by using fresh and original concept.
- Please read and reflect the top three ideas we want to convey with the logo (finance, convenience and speed). Logo #27 is highly ranked because it's one of the few which reflects all this concepts. Still we would prefer to avoid the book and the graph.
- Logo #25 is highly ranked because it's really smart - obvious without being trivial. There is something like a sheet of paper but it's just an association, not the actual literal thing drawn. There is also a graph but it fits naturally without being a plain graphic.

To sum it up - none of the logos we received so far is even close to what we want. We are looking for a smart, original and well thought concept. Please try to avoid the trivial graphics and be more inventive.

Please leave comments for individual designs by clicking on those designs and use this area only for general comments to all designers...It's helpful to avoid using designs as examples since they are the original concepts of those designers.
Thank you!

Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest as it progresses:

~~ Leave private feedback by clicking on a design. Feedback will be made public upon contest completion.
~~ Rank designs daily -- this will encourage participation.
~~ Rank a variety of designs to get a variety of entries.
~~ Ranking gets your contest noticed! Unless your contest is Private, 1st place entries are posted to the portfolio page: https://logotournament.com/portfolio
~~ When you provide feedback to designers, you increase the chances of getting the logo you want. More feedback = better results!
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested." We'd like to know what you don't want so we can give you the design you do want.
~~ Designers earn points for designs ranked 1st - 10th. We like to earn points.
~~ The first phase of the contest is the "Open" phase, and everyone can submit during that time.
~~ After your contest's initial "Open" phase closes, it will enter the "Top 5" phase; only the top 5 ranked designers will be able to submit revisions at that time.
~~ The "Top 5" designers are the first 5 designers in a contest, not the first 5 designs.
~~ When "Top 5" ends, the "Judging" phase begins. The designer of the 1st place design will be the only designer who can submit revisions at that time.

Thanks for your comments. I'm referring to individual designs in my last feedback because I want to explain why they are ranked high and thus give more context.

Some more feedback to all - try symbolizing and conveying the meaning of "Live". The clock is one option but we would like to avoid the literal representations. As I'm mentioning in all the other comments - we are looking for something smart and unconventional. Try embedding the idea and the meaning of live by using a not standard symbols and avoid the clock if possible.

Issues,

The part of speech for "Live" is adjective -- modifying a noun (10-K).

Think of "live" or "alive". The real 10-K SEC documents are very technical and "dry" (sorry another idiom) and are not easy or fun to read. We want to make the documents easy to understand.

The paradigm we have chosen is to make the document a living thing -- or alive.

Thank you all for your great work, imagination and creativity. We consider this contest to be a big success and we are really amazed by the amount and the quality of the concepts we received.

There are so many concepts we like and we would be glad to explore but unfortunately we need to choose five to move forward.

Once again, big thanks to all of you! You are awesome!
