Our Ideas & Additional Information
Please do NOT make the "t" in Heartland into a cross, unless you can do it in a way that's unique from the other 900,000 churches that do that. :)

We will be using the logo with AND without the word "church", so the design would have to allow for absence of "church".

http://www.hopebrunswick.org/ Check out this link for a church's logo. I like what this church did with the budding leaf. (I'm not crazy about the cross on the side - it looks like it was added with a cheap Paint program.) We don't necessarily want to copy the leaf, but the subtle design idea really captured their name.

Our logo will be painted on the sides of our new building when it is finished. It is a renovated warehouse on a busy intersection. We will maintain much of the industrial look and decor both inside and out. The logo doesn't need to be "industrial" looking, but it will need to work in that setting. Here's a picture of the building and site when it was still a business. http://www.vision-products.com/about.html

Personally, I don't prefer the cursive of #1 and #3. My team will be weighing in, so you may get some different feedback in while. Of all the pictoral marks, I like #1 the best. #4, if we had a heart in the logo somewhere, it would need to be more subtle. Overall, we don't feel it's necessary to have a cross in the logo, but would be open to it if it was a great design.

After I talk with my team I'll give you some more feedback. thanks so much for submitting so quickly!

thanks so much for the submissions! When doing pictorals, can you put an option of what it would look like on either the side of the text? That might translate better for on the side of our building.

Also we don't necessarily need a pictoral. I'd be interested in seeing some creative work with the letters, some abstract marks, etc.

Would like to see some designs with bold uppercase fonts, and maybe some with bold lowercase fonts. Probably sans serif, but I'd be interesting in what a serif font would look like, too.

thanks again, everyone.

one of my team members suggested just seeing a letter form done with just the H, Heartland church beside it.

I pointed to a logo that had a leaf on it, but that doesn't mean we necessarily want that. it was just a great way that church illustrated their name, Hope. And to reiterate, we're very open to seeing a cross in the logo, but in a fresh way.

Got a lot of blue up there right now. We'd be open to seeing other colors. Also, I'd like to see something that subtly connects to the fact that we're going to make our home in a repurposed warehouse/manufacturing facility. But again, it needs to be understated.

I know enough about design just to be dangerous. But I'm going to throw this idea out there that anyone can take an run with. But it may be a bad idea. You won't hurt my feelings if tell me so. Here it is:
I wondered if there was a way to create a subtle design of a heart by slanting and moving together the "e" and "a" in the word heartland. Again, just a thought I had awhile back. Might be worth developing. Might not.

thanks.

I think we're off to a decent start, but we haven't yet seen something that really grabs us. Here are some things we'd like to see
- little more masculine and bold.
- more letterforms.
- less cartoon-ish pictorals

And we're still open to see lots of different color schemes. Please feel free to ask questions for clarity.

Here is some feedback from on of our team members: "Would like to see something that showcases the "H" somehow. I'd also like to see a more rugged flavor, less flowery."

I gave some feedback directly to #20 and #21. But overall for other designers, I would say stay away from feminine looking fonts. I liked the contrast between the upper and lowercase of #20 and #21. And I'd be interested in seeing some more white on dark background.

Has anyone ever tried to create an image of an empty tomb. It would need to be simple, recognizable, but fit the logo. We'd have some interest in seeing that well done.

thanks!

While what many you have done with leaves looks good, I don't think we're going to go that direction. The Hope logo I put in the brief must have been a little misleading. I just liked the simple way they used the leaf to symbolize their name, Hope.

We're open to letter forms and abstract marks. We're also interested in seeing a simple and subtle treatment of an empty tomb in a pictoral mark. it would need to be recognizable as an empty tomb to people who know the Gospel story. And also aesthetically pleasing as a pictoral for someone who doesn't understand the Gospel story of the Resurrection.

Should be an interesting 29 hours. Thanks everyone!!! you're doing great.

I'll be back in about 4 or 5 hours after church to give more specific feedback several of you. I'm hoping to get more input from my team that's helping decide this. With several people weighing in, it is making this process a little tougher. Feel free to ask clarifying questions.

The team I'm working with at the church has chosen their top 5 and we will be working with them over the next few days to determine our new logo.

To all the designers, thank you SO much for your submissions. I appreciate the thought and work you put into these logos. Blessings to you, your families and the work that you do.
