Color Preferences
Want simple, complimentary colors that evoke the ideas above. Want colors to be simple enough to print logo at any size on any medium, and/or a logo that can be printed in black and white and maintain brand identity.
I like the use of perspective in jmrauman's logos (#35, #34). I love the simplicity and the contrast of plug&play studio's design (#42 :) and the creative approach of zrox's (#32).
Still don't see a logo here that's made me say, "that's it!" but it looks like each successive batch of entries is getting a bit closer. Because this logo will become an integral part of our brand identity, I'm going to hold out until I find that "one." :)
Most of the logo's are in red/black or red/gray, although I'd love to see more use of blue or green. I'm not set on any particular color combination, but I think blue or green may better convey a sense of calm (remember, fortitude is courage in the face of adversity) and/or strength, power and wealth.
Another thing to keep in mind: my target audience is initially a predominantly white-collar, big business audience. Although "42ed" is clearly a play on words, and ultimately an entertainment and education company with a sense of humor, I want to steer clear of logo's that are too "whimsical."
And I /really/ like the logo with the fedora. In fact, I like it so much, I'm interested in seeing if anyone could make a similarly-styled hat fit on / into the 42ed logo. Anyone want to give it a shot?
- Easy to read as "42ed" - Offers or supports a sense of "fortitude" (That strength or firmness of mind which enables a person to encounter danger with coolness and courage.) - Good balance between conservative and fun - Simple but creative - Easy to adapt to any medium (web, business card, t-shirt, promo merch)
Fortitude is the guard and support of the other virtues. --Locke.
So, I'm not entirely sure why, but atalieus's submissions were apparently removed "based on a community vote." Not sure exactly what this means, and because I wasn't able to find a search feature in the forums, I wasn't able to determine where the vote took place.
What happened? Since I can't see the designs anymore, I'm not entirely certain which images they were, though I had at least one of the images in my shortlist.
However, as the designer is still a member here, I'm assuming it wasn't a significant infraction... ?
If you click the logocourt button at the top of this page you will see what its all about, he was voted out for copying zrox's concept of the upside down '2' which i believe means he can no longer compete in this contest. (but he isnt banned form the site or anything)
also taylor, if you havent already could you please spare a minute to read this: http://logotournament.com/forum/general_discussion/914 it contains a lot of info that will be very helpful for u and in turn will make things easier for us =) thanks! bugy
Contest is going great so far! Thank you to /everybody/ for your submissions! All have been excellent, and we've tried to provide feedback on logos we liked, as well as those that weren't as good of a fit. Still, this is our first contest, so we're learning as we go!
I will continue to provide feedback and re-rank logos as often as possible, and please don't hesitate to message me directly if my comments or feedback are unclear or if you'd like to discuss direction.
Thank you again to all designers, and I look forward to seeing further submissions!
Based on outside feedback, we would like to see some logos that incorporate an apostrophe between the "42" and the "ed" to better convey the word "forty-two'ed" (like "fortitude").
So maybe, for new and/or existing logos, could you see if you can creatively fit an apostrophe in the logo, so it's: 42'ed
Hope that makes sense, and thank you to every designer who has submitted designs thus far!
FYI, even though we are re-ranking logos regularly, due to limitations in the interface here, we have several very similar designs and designs by the same designers that we keep moving in and out of our top 11 slots.
In order to be fair to all of the designers who have submitted excellent logos and been in our shortlist at various points throughout the competition, we will try to re-rank prior to the end of the contest to ensure that there are no more than 1 (or 2 very different) designs by any 1 designer in our top 11 slots.
Thank you again to all designers for your continuing submissions, and good luck to everyone!
We'd just like to reiterate what an outstanding contest this has been! It's been VERY difficult to choose a winner because there are so many outstanding designs.
Everyone who submitted to our contest was very talented and creative, and we will very likely be working with several of you in the future for additional design work.
Thank you again to all designers for your time and your outstanding and creative efforts! (FYI, we will likely have 2 additional contests for a couple of our other companies in the very near future, so we hope you'll participate again!)
