What We Do
Teaching Spanish to children 6 months to 8 years old through playful, stimulating, activity based full immersion classes (no English translations).

Color Preferences
Our current logo is relatively colorful. Often prime colors are used with things related to children, but that is not a must. We would like to keep it colorful and baby/child related.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We would like to keep our name (Spanish Immersion Workshop) as part of the design or maybe as an optional element that can be added and removed. See our current logo on the header at www.spanishiw.com and our re-designed web layout (this is a rough design and intended to show layout only, not color, not copy, not graphics) at http://www.spanishiw.net/dev/index.html.
We would like to keep some continuity with our current logo while updating it and giving it a fresher look. We would also be open to totally new design if you're inspired.

In an attempt to communicate and comment as clearly as possible, we will post most comments (**and any adjustments / changes to the design brief) in the discussion area below and then any specific requests about a concept/design in the design's discussion area.

Since we are new to this, if there's a better way to give comments that is more helpful for the designers, please post it here.

We've read a great forum thread about how this all works and will do our best to give constructive comments on all designs: https://logotournament.com/forum/general_discussion/914

**ADJUSTMENT TO CONTEST BRIEF**
To all:
After seeing the first eight entries, we realized that our original direction of 'playful' is not exactly what we're looking for. We originally thought playful because our program uses play as a teaching method and children have fun and enjoy it; however, we also have a serious curriculum so that children learn real and functional Spanish language skills (though play and fun) -- we are not free-play in spanish or a spanish play group.

So we want to combine these concepts in the design, fun (children enjoy doing it) and serious (children learn real spanish language skills).

Design comments:
Regarding #2 #3 #4 #5: the colors of the Spanish flag certainly convey 'spanish', however we want to stay nationally neutral. So we should stay away from colors that too closely resemble those of flags of spanish speaking countries. The rest of the design falls under the too playful comments above.

Regarding #6 #7: also too playful in general. The stylized hand is ok but not it, maybe just the playful issue -- we don't know what to say about it exactly (sorry).

Regarding #8: also too playful.

We really apprciate the entries, sorry about the 'playful' change. We don't want to make a lot of contest changes, but as we see design interpretations of our directions we may need to tweek things a little.

We will hold off ranking entries 2 - 8 for now since we changed the 'playful' direction.

#9 is less playful, better. The name needs more umph, but the SIW (as we sometimes refer to ourselves in copy) is more noticeable, like that. See other comments in design discussion.

#12 Like the font better, but still would like something a bit less stylized.

**DESIGN BRIEF UPDATE/CHANGE REQUEST**
To all:
The current designs are ranked, however we have had some interesting input from our side... Why the hand? Of course because it appears in our current logo and we asked to have some continuity with the new design. However, for our new clients who are unfamiliar with SIW, the new hand designs (without the old base with the kids) may not make sense (what does it really have to do with teaching spansih to kids?). Could the hand image lead to thoughts of 'sign language' thus be misleading?

OK, so here's the challenge: How would you change your top design (or a new design concept) to include a differnet graphic other than a hand? This is a bit of big change but can be significant.

Our current logo, besides the hand, also has at the base of the hand kids sort of playing. Maybe we can play this up a little? Just a thought.

because it was the most iconic element of your old logo.

Agreed wackman. And not sure it's really any issue, but it was a point raised.

it won´t hurt to try something different. if i would have started blank, a hand wouldn't even cross my mind ;)

We are definitely open to trying something different, but we don't want to throw everyone off course. But if anyone has anything they thought would work, but didn't go with it because of the hand/continuity to with the old logo, definitely put it in.

**ALSO**
To all:
We our website address is spanishiw.com and we refer to ourselves as SIW sometimes in copy -- but this shouldn't replace the full name -- just that it might be good to highlight the S, I & W somehow.

Logos with a circle of hands are an often repeated logo mark. If the CH wants to go this route, I'm sure they understand the ramifications of pursuing such a design.

We are going to extend the contest for 2 reasons 1) We are waiting for some re-worked entries from one of the designers who has had some technical difficulties and 2) we need some extra time to work through and rank all the entries coming in near he end of the contest. To help us organize the entries before the final judging stage we will be using the 'not interested' list but may not be able to give feedback to everyone.

We have tried very hard to rank and communicate with every designer who has submitted a concept (and they have all been great, even if they are not our choice); but during the extension we will only be working with those designers who are in final contention and will not be able to comment to everyone.

We will most likely end the contest before the extension expires. You can enter new concepts, but as mentioned, we will not be commenting on them unless they have the potential to replace one of our current top choices.

Once in the final judging stage, we will be re-ranking all entries (or at least one version of a concept) even if it is in the 'not interested' list right now. We will pay most attention to the top 11 rankings for both concept and effort, below that we will add entries just for the point value. We really appreciate the time and effort of all the designers who entered our contest -- THANK YOU!

Hello SIW

Please take a moment to review the "Ranking and General Tips" as compiled by one of our designers (Bugy) https://logotournament.com/forum/general_discussion/914. Also, Please consider ranking the designs rather than eliminating the points we gather are valuable even if we do not win your contest.

Hi, I did entries #115 #98 #99 and #113. I want to know what you do and don't like about them. Perhaps a more human touch?

Current ranking explained...
OK, with about 3-4 hours remaining in our contest, we want to explain our ranking and our plan. We are only concentrating on our top choices at this time and using the ranking to help decide the versions we like best. During the judging period we will pay more attention to the top 11 spots based on designs we liked (and not include multiple versions of the same design); we will then add other desgins to the ranks based on design & effort so that points will be awarded (but these will not be in any particular order).

We really think all the designers have done a fabulous job and we really appreciate the time and effort!
