Color Preferences
Not sure. Color palette should be warm and inviting, connoting safety, security, yet impelling toward action. My goal is to make the new business's website compatible with the primary business, but different, brothers, not identical twins -- its color palette is chocolate brown, gold, with blue highlights.

Based on the "common associations" provided, maybe blue and green.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
I'll upload my primary business logo for visual reference. I'd like a logo that is parallel to this logo. The new logo could be as close as sharing the same structure -- basic iconic mark image with adjacent typeset name, in the same general arrangement (iconic mark, maybe vary positioning left/right) -- or more of a departure, but not too far out. Current website for primary business is www.malleryfinancial.com, but I'm in the midst of a complete upgrade, preview available at www.malleryfinancial.advisorwebsite.com/preview. Many stylistic changes still to come, but logo will be top left, nav below and to the right. I will be linking from this website to the new one. So the logo (and website) should parallel or echo the primary website, www.malleryfinancial.com. In fact, the new website WILL be a clone of www.malleryfinancial.com, with color palette changes, simplified home page, and less content overall. So I'm looking for consistent look and feel, but distinct.

Lots of great ideas, so fast!

Three comments:
1) Many of the early entries are too much like the existing Mallery Financial logo. The stairs motif is too close.

2) I'd like it to include a mark (just not stairs).

3) Colors should be different from Mallery Financial. No chocolate browns or similar colors, please.

What I'm after is enough genetic similarity to be able to recognize the two brothers as brothers when you meet them, but not so much as to confuse their identities or to assume too much crossover (no identical twins).

The up/down thing is a complicated question. in my Mallery Financial logo, I used stairs going up to signify increasing wealth, strong rates of return, movement forward. For taxes, though, we almost want to opposite effect. Unless we can do both -- one decreasing (taxes) while the other part increases (wealth). ?

Thanks!

TAGLINE! I think I will need a tagline. Still working on that, but for now please Greek in four or five words as a tagline. Thanks!

TAGLINE FINALIZED:

Tax Preparation <bullet> Tax Strategies

The bullet of course doesn't have to be a simple bullet but could be spiffed, even a created a design element.
