shades of blue and gold have always been my favorite combination, but they can be worked with other colors so long as the overall color scheme isn't too "clownish" or powerful.. I like soft colors which when combined create a bold, memorable statement.

Also, I have a preference for landscape logos, though if someone has a good idea for a portrait logo, I wouldn't rule it out.

As for graphics, a rainbow or something to sdo with a pen would be interesting to see.
