NuteakLogo Design Contest

One thing that would be nice to see (not a main requirement) is incorporating somehow lines from a teak floor into the lettering of the logo. Also having some type of nautical icon to help support and visuallize that our product is a nautical product. Please note that this is NOT a core requirement to have lines within the logo (do not want to limit your creativity but it was something that we thought was a nice touch).

We have began sorting out our top 5 selection of logo's and will be working with each of you from concepts we feel hold value to our brand values of "marine" + "teak" while emphasizing how our company name is written (NU vs. "new")

Thank you all for your submissions. As you can see we're sort of torn between 2 sides. We love the idea of having a creative icon that relates to marine and having some textual treatment to the font so that it's more a type of wordmark with an icon.

Just to note we are looking to have the logo presented on a white background with colors NU in a blueish tone and teak in a brown tone.

We're looking for a nice looking but clean font face selection to be used. If you decide to apply some teak texture inside the lettering please make sure that it looks very clean and not dirty. Just the word NUteak using some nice font face will not make the cut as we have already 15 internal variants of this to replace our existing logo... we're seeking something that's more "creative" / professional.

The logo needs to represent a luxury feeling, teak and marine while showing that we spell it N+U & not NEW.

Here's more in depth explanation that might help you guys. I am providing a generic explanation here instead of copying and pasting to each of the currently selected top designers...

Like we requested we want to have wordart and an icon. With that being said, my boss likes #90 because it's an icon of a boat wheel. The rope, icons of pirate ships, etc... are not liked because it's too specific. Keep in mind that nautical people represent a boat wheel as a universal symbol for boating.

From #90 he also likes that there's some arrows pointing towards a direction. He wanted something showing that represents movement (moving forward - like how on FedEx between the "e" & "x" you can see there's an arrow pointing forward.

So this is what I would have to say to you or anyone else that is working on this.

1. #90 is the icon that he likes most but he does not like the bevel that is in it. He prefers the clean style in the icon from #196 but he does not like the font on #196.

2. He really likes the textual treatment from option #168 but not the colors that are used. He finds that the A as the boat bow is a really cool concept, but he wants an icon associated with the logo cause that alone isn't enough.

3. As for the icon itself, we are leaning towards having it placed inside a crest, similar to option #199, but we're not 100% sold on this as we do not want to compete the icon with the name (we're still looking for a good balance between everything).

But with all that said, my boss is really in love with the idea of a boat wheel concept (even though we all find it is too distracting in it's current state on #90).

Just wanted to share this little piece of information. I hope this helps.

~~ When "Top 5" ends, the "Judging" phase begins. The Designer of the 1st place design will be the only Designer who can submit revisions at that time.

Just a little general guideline. The logo colors need to be the 2 colors that nuteak uses. NU in blue & TEAK in brownish color. You can see a good example of colors with option #224.

So please make sure that when you present that it's using these 2 colors within the logo as it will help us to visualize things better.

Also the icon should not have any gradients, shadows, embossed effects or textures to it. We want this to be a clean style "flat" vector.

Lastly, the logo should focus first on the name of the brand nuteak. The icon should support it and not overpower it. Seems a lot of the latest submissions are focusing too much on the icon and not enough on the name.

Is there any way that we can add something like N or NU or NT to the wheel so it looks like its customized to nuteak and not just a generic clipart boat wheel icon beside our company name? Also is there some way we can integrate the icon a little bit better to the text?
