Color Preferences
Our current logo is green for healing and growth (and it would be easiest to stick with that) but we are not strictly married to any given colour scheme. Red to convey muscle / heart / blood seems logical. Should be bright modern "scientific" colours. We prefer a transparent not dark background. Avoid black.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Be creative: we want something different, something that we have not thought of yet. The following is for broad guidance. The word Myotec combines the elements: Myo for muscle with Tec for Technology. You may want to have different colours or shades for each element but that is not necessary. You may or may not want to include the word “Therapeutics” but probably not the slogan “Discovering and Developing New Treatments for Wasting Diseases” (too much detail) again, your call. Our patients will have lost almost all of their body muscle and body fat and will be very ill. Muscle loss is the most important and these patients have almost no ability to walk. The image will thus probably make reference to muscles but not in a body-building sense (no biceps please!). We are looking for a refined, clean, scientific image. Probably quite abstract. Perhaps an image of muscle fibres rather than whole muscles, either in cross section or lengthways or the actin-myosin structure or the muscle spindle structure. The banding of muscle fibres might be a possible theme (see this for structure ideas http://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/contexts/sporting_edge/sci_media/images/muscle_structure). Inclusion of an abstract depiction of the heart might be appropriate but should not dominate. An alternative idea might be to look at the overall concept of depicting a wasting disease, although we have no pre-conceived idea of how that could be done, we are very open to your creative ideas and we will give good feedback. Please be sensitive to the fact that this is a terminal disease that people die of. The logo should be simple enough to work well as a black on white version (we will request this).

Yes, it's always good to know clients graphic taste in advance, it helped to decide whether to enter this contest :)

Note to Designers: remember that we don't want pictures of big muscles ... this is not a body building product, our aim is to keep people alive. The logo should lead with "science"

Thank you for the entries so far ... I am committed to giving feedback and to ranking all entries everyday (I will try...!!!) but please note that we are looking for a range of creative ideas. I am only one of the judging panel, we are a small company and the whole board will want to "judge" your work. When you see the the current rankings that is my opinion (real score is only 1 out of 5!) ... as time goes on I will ask the board to log in and give me feedback too ... you will get all of that feedback directly from me too so keep new ideas coming

In other words give us variety and a range of creative ideas ... I am willing to bet that the winning idea is nothing like anything that we have thought of so far!

Thank you all for entries so far ... key thing for us: we are still looking for a muscle theme. This should preferably be subtle and / or highly abstract. Some things that might spark something amongst you:
- Muscles are long and form bundles
- Muscle cells in cross section resemble a non-uniform honeycomb
- Muscle spindles are "spindle shaped" with a taper on each end and a single spiral wrapped around the spindle
- Muscle cells have a typical striped pattern along their length
- muscles cause motion and movement
- muscles are also found in the heart

Hoping to see more from you all soon

Wow, nice response to my last post ... starting to get some good themes emerging. Please don't steal ideas from other designers, I am committed to helping each designer get the best from his or her own individual designs and I will not choose copy cat designs. Also, when I give you feedback (I think that I have managed to give to you all, if I have not or do not in the future, just ping me a message and I will) please don't necessarily withdraw your earlier entries, as the competition runs I will involve some other judges and your entries might bounce right up the ranking if others like them.

Thank you again all, really appreciate the good work

Notes to all:

1. Please do not use the "cross logo", even though it appears in some of the top ten designs, the individual designers have been asked to modify them and they are not likely to be winners in the long run

2. Please keep the colour decisions more open, we have not decided on colours despite the current rankings ... be original and I will always give feedback if we really don't like it

Stay creative ... anyone brave enough to try to depict a wasting disease in a sympathetic abstract form? Our scientific founder loves abstract art, he might be keen.

Keep up the great work ... surprise us

Wow ... things are starting to look great ... we have really good diversity of ideas and colours and you guys are taking things in great directions. We like the emerging muscle and heart themes. I like that some of you have picked up on an idea that this may degenerate or fragment as an idea for wasting.

I have done a quick ranking but it is starting to get tough (I know the design work is tougher right...!!!)

I will come back and do a better ranking job but first I want to give individual feedback.

Best wishes

Dear all

The ranking has been slightly revised to take in to account feedback from our board (the judges on this contest). Note that this is an initial check to ensure that my feedback to you has been adequate ... not too far off ... no decisions have been made and the range of themes really reflects that we are still open to ideas.

We have decided definitively that the "double helix" is out ... all entries with that motif have been moved to the bottom of the ranking.

Best wishes

Akerman has just gone deep on the science... check it out... you have to take your hat off to that level of dedication!

There are still some similar yet alternative approaches ... anyone up for a representations of actin & myosin?

Best wishes

Dear Designers

Sorry for the total lack of feedback this weekend, for some reason logotournament log in was not working on the new version of Firefox ... I am not a techy so I don't know why ... very frustrating ... no help from logotournament help desk ... now back on IE and it seems to work again ... go figure

Any way sorry for no feedback or ranking over the last 24 hours ... will need to decide whether to extend or not since i have a stack of built up feedback...!!!!

Dear all

I have had quite a bit of built up feedback due to IT problems this week (see above) ... in order to be fair to those on differing time zones I have extended by the minimum allowed (2 days)

I am sorry for this, since I had planned to end and give final judgement at the specified time point. i know that it is bad form for CH to extend contests especially when entries are as good as those that we have recieved, but this was beyond my control. I will end the contest early, as soon as designers have had a chance to respond to my feedback over the next 24 hours.

Thank you again for all of your hard work
