Color Preferences
Our preconceived notions regarding color are limited to the fact that Magpies typically are portrayed as black. We're open to being guided by great design ideas.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We're interested in exploring dimensionality in the mark. This is not essential (and all comps need not include this). What's most important is that the Magpie convey the characteristics we listed. This is the personification of our culture and our brand.

As we considered potential brands, one of our own designers created the comp we uploaded as part of this contest. We think this is fine as a point of reference and includes some interested elements (for example, the monocle on the magpie is interesting) - but we'd like to explore potential marks more fully and land on something more polished and complete.

Please don't feel "anchored" by the early comp I provided. It's one interesting starting point - but we're extremely interested in seeing other explorations.

Please also remember that we're most interested in marks that offer engaging characterizations of a Magpie that, per our brief, is clever, helpful and cheeky.

Finally, please be aware that there are two principal uses for the mark:

1) on business cards
2) as a mark in the footer of the web pages for our applications.

Thanks!

Just to get you thinking in a different direction, here are a few samples of some bird logos that are different from the sample I gave you and that would be perfect as stand alone images. Also - don't worry about color at this point, it's easier to choose from black and white, we can change the color later.

With these images, I particularly liked the movement in the design, the fact that the images can stand alone, it's different, simple and clean.
