Our Ideas & Additional Information
links; see http://www.public.navy.mil/airfor/centennial/Pages/welcome.aspx for a website to reference what we do. Focus on the fighters in the video, but the helos or other aircraft. Also, an emblem at the end of the video and at the top left corner of the website is what we all know as the centennial patch for 100 years of naval aviation.
What has been done in the past and is familiar are the front on silhouettes of the F/A-18C and F/A-18F of the glasses with Hornet Ball (year) in between or below.
This logo/image must be easy enough to etch in glass ware but not look to simple.

Discussion

I like the ideas and logos coming up. I briefly discussed the use of using the front end view of the Hornet and Super Hornet, which is a direct nose on shot. This event, Hornet Ball 2011, is hosting pilots and aircrew from both communities, so I hesitate to select a logo which only has one of the two aircraft on it. Some pilots may, just may, get their feelings hurt if their aircraft is not represented.

The color logo looks good, but I need to check with the glass etcher to ensure we can do this. If not I can have him/her put it in just white for the glasses.

Of note, this looks like it's going to be hard.

I like the emblem (#10), also the idea of #11 and #12. I was wondering if maybe we could see something with a little bit of length to it(left to Right), not too much. The emblem, #10, looks good but the the LEX, the airframe extension protruding away from the canopy, is a little too large even for the Super Hornet.

#3-#7 are looking good, but I can't tell quite which type of jet I'm looking at (I would guess a F/A-18C). The reason I bring this up is that the two jets are very different in the inside, so it might be good to show both.

#1-#2, totally different that what I was thinking but I'm not against it. The wings look a little Air Force-ish (we have "Wings of Gold" in the Navy). You are correct in doing it in a white to black (with shadng to gray inbetween), but I'm thinking a little bit more feathers for the wings. The Air Force pilot wings are quite different than ours (the U.S. Navy). I like were you are going with it! Hmm, maybe something with the different aircraft or something saying this is for the fighter community.

I'll try and get more feed back to all of you! Awesome work so far! More than I expected!!!!

To all of you, this is an amazing showing! I think by the end of this I might want to pick more than just one!!

The Hornets and Super Hornets are looking great, but I still want to say the LEX (the part protruding/coming out from just below the canopy and joins the wing line) is a little larger on a few of the entries (think of it as the hood of a cobra).

Since this design is going to be used on wine glasses and etched, it might make sense to try and use a more elegant font. This is a very formal event, even though we like not to think of ourselves as "pinky up in the air wine drinkers". Please keep up the original fonts as well because I think these are quite good!

Thanks for the logo so far and the hard work you all are doing!!!
