Hi Blue Chomp,
First, thanks for your submissions! To answer your question, we work with companies who are not able to bring in a full-time admin (usually due to cost) and offer administrative and marketing services while working remotely. This provides an alternative to companies hiring someone for 40 hours/week, providing office space, and paying for that employee's benefits. We work on a retainer or project basis - meaning that we are willing to commit to someone for as a little as 5 hours/week... or we can take on one-time projects such as a mail merge, assistance in creating marketing collateral, planning and facilitating an event, etc.
Girl Friday is likely a common name since its a term pulled from the Robinson Crusoe. "Man Friday" was Crusoe's servant/assistant - the female idiom for this term has become "Girl Friday". There was a famous movie released in 1940 called "His Girl Friday" which added greater creedence to the term, as the female lead character was the male lead character's "go-to-girl" at the newspaper where they worked.
Let me know if you need more info - hopefully that will help!
Best,
Jenny
