Top Three Things to Communicate
#1 - Speed-to-market publishing approach - we take months, not years, to publish a title
#2 - Evocative of a new, independent spirit of academic publishing, free from institutional and bureaucratic baggage found with larger publishers
#3 - Incredible service and a personal, high-touch experience for each author
Our Target Audience:
Professors and instructors teaching in higher education: community colleges, public and private universities, and other academic settings. Nationally distributed in schools like Purdue, New York University, and UC San Diego. Most authors tend to be in their mid-to-late 30s, 40s, and 50s and have been teaching for 5-10+ years. They are very knowledgeable in their field, and may have been passed over or overlooked by larger publishers. An even blend of male/female, but all are in the academic environment. They tend to be very busy, and are looking for a simple way to fulfill their goals of being a published author. Since they will use the book in their classroom, they will also have a 'lift' by using their own, published book.
Color Preferences
Green - perhaps two tones, and perhaps a warm/cool combination.
Orange might be a nice complement, if the orange is a different value than the green.
There needs to be strong contrast to represent solidity, strength and an assurance of quality.
Our Ideas and Additional Information:
Although it's academic publishing, which can be stodgy and 'institutional', we want this to look progressive and fresh while still conveying assurance, quality and trust.
#6 - That's an interesting approach, but I'd prefer to have the graphics separated from the text. "ella" is a beautiful sound, and there can be some stylish, swooping play with the 'l's
#8 is STRONG. Cranberryblue - you're wonderful with all the choices. I like the experimentation with the others, but #8 is the leading contender. The book graphic is a bit more obvious, and less sophisticated that the organic Cog. #9 is also good, but I'm not sold on the orange color. You might want to try cooler tones as well - at first I thought orange would be a good complement, but I'm drifting away from that. Perhaps a clean, pale blue tone (?), not sure. These are great, however. Thank you very much.
