Logo Design Brief

Client
What We Do
The City of Richmond, Virginia's Sustainability Office is charged with furthering the Mayor's triple bottom line goals of sustainability: an improved quality of life for residents, a healthy environment and enhanced economic development and job creation opportunities.
Industry
Miscellaneous
Color Preferences
Fairly flexible on colors, though would keep it to no more than three. Definitely want to see examples with blue and green in them, but interested in other colors as well.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Richmond is known as a the River City (it sits along the James River) - we are not necessarily looking for something with that, but would be interested to see some options. You will see it in the other logos referenced. We are attaching and providing links below to some existing logos that the City has, we do not want the same logo as these, but if there is a way to demonstrate a connection to them (loosely) we would be interested in seeing that, though it is not required. Logo Designer
Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest as it progresses:

~~ Rank designs daily -- this will encourage participation.
~~ Rank and re-rank a variety of designs to get a variety of entries.
~~ Ranking gets your contest noticed! Unless your contest is Private, 1st place entries are posted to the portfolio page: https://logotournament.com/portfolio
~~ Leave private feedback by clicking on a design. Feedback will be made public upon contest completion
~~ The more feedback you provide, the better results you will see.
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested".
~~ Over-use of "Not Interested" discourages participation.
~~ Designers earn points for designs ranked 1st - 10th. We like to earn points.
~~ After your contest closes it will enter Judging phase. You can re-rank designs in Judging.
~~ While in Judging, the designer ranked in first place can submit revisions

More detailed information on how to get the most out of your contest can be found here:

Thank you all for the great work. A few comments to hopefully spark some additional creativity.
The logo is not actually for the Office, so the taglines are not needed, we are more interested in the icon at this point. Would like to see some integration of other colors besides blue and green at this point- or maybe some variation on the shades of green and blue. Interested as well in non-buliding type of logos. This is looking at lot like the West Palm Beach logo that was recently designed on this site. Would be curious to see something with the earth or natural resources in general. Also interested in designs with three distinct features representing the environmental, social, and economic components!
Thank you!

WE REALLY WANT TO SEE SOMETHING WITHOUT BUILDINGS, PLEASE! See my previous note. We would like something more abstract. Please see the additional examples attached and the links below for new ideas:

This logo is for the City of Richmond Sustainability Plan (NOT THE OFFICE). We have not yet finalized the name for the plan, but are trying to do so asap. We definitely like the plan logos that feature multiple icons. Here are additional links to logos we like with icons.

WE REALLY LIKE THE ICONS! Can we see more of those?? Please consider icons for the following categories: Economic Development; Energy (possible icon= compact fluorescent light bulb); Environment; Open Space and Land Use (possible icon= tree, leaf); and Transportation (possible icon= bike; people walking; carpool). Also for the name of the plan please work off of the RVA concept (see previous concept)- possible examples are

RVA Green
Green RVA
Plan RVA
Envision RVA
Imagine RVA

Thanks!

All- really great work! We are definitely getting closer!! Can we see more swooshes, like in #1, 20, and 42 and how about taking a stab at all five icons as mentioned in comment above. Also any suggestions for a replacement word for Better?? We are looking for an action verb that means better...

Still want to see Envision RVA as well.
Thank you!!

All- really great work! The swoosh must be included in the logo- preferably under the RVA. And we would still like to see something with the five icons for Economic Development; Energy; Environment; Open Space and Land Use; and Transportation.
Thanks!

Ok- we are really getting there now. We have also narrowed down our names for the Plan to our top two:

Envision RVA (with the tagline A Roadmap to Sustainability)
and
RVA Green (with the tagline A Roadmap to Sustainability)

Please continue with the five icons and use those two names. We must keep the RVA portion of the logo consistent with the font and style of the RVA that you can find here at www.rvacreates.com. This is an open source so any of you can use it.

Finally the favorite icon ideas are:

Energy- lightbulb or sun or solar panels
Environment- recycling arrows, ideally the arrows are made of water or just something representing water like a rain drop
Economic Development- (we know this is a tough one) the bar graphs with the arrow heading up works. We do not have any other suggestions, though are open to them!
Open Space and Land Use- We prefer a tree to a leaf
Transportation- love the transit train, the bike, and an active person

Thank you all! We are very excited and impressed with the work you are producing!

REALLY GREAT WORK EVERYONE! This is getting harder and harder to rank you all!

One last idea- same logo, but title = enRichmond (Enrich Richmond- but combining them, you will need to make it clear that the rich belongs in both words) Thanks!

As we are coming to a close I want to thank you all for participating- you are all very talented! This will be a tough decision!
