NEW DIRECTION!! PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING NEW DESIGNS!
Macro – level NEW Art Direction:
The logo/brand of BabbleCam requires two strategic elements.
1) A stylish web 2.0 font making BabbleCam type memorable. We've come to like the coloration Orange/Blue per #17. Color Only, not design. But are still open to variations of these colors.
• The breaking up the words #26 by dotwoman make “BabbleCam” memoriable.
• But we haven’t yet found the right font for the brand essence. Please keep submitting.
2) An Iconic symbol – which is simplistic, stylized, memorable.
• The symbol needs to quickly communicate Multi-people live cam chat rooms, face to face to face interacting, or social COMMUNITY. Ie, how would you make a logo for a site that interacted with others in a similar manner as craigslist, or facebook – but with a webcam. This site isn’t one to one web cam, but multi-people 4+ talking in one room.
• The illustration needs to tell a story above and beyond what the name already implies.
oTherefore do not show illustrations of talking, since the word “Babble” already clearly communicates this. Ie no mouths.
o In addition, don’t show Just an illustration of a Web Cam, as the word “Cam” already makes reference to this.
-The icon, should not just literallly show an external web cam. The Cam can be there, but should be a in a subdue manner - very stylized.
- Possibly design an ABSTRACT webcam utilizing shapes, that symbolize a webcam – ie Stickam’s logo
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3565/3328012063_f933d35ab2.jpg - Please don’t copy this logo, as they are a indirect competitor.
- An Eye, or Cam symbol can be incorporated into the illustration – just not be the focal point.
o This illustration should be a quick read, very simple – and have a web 2.0 look and feel with gradients or shadows to make it pop off the screen.
Tactical suggestions, based on artwork submitted prior to Saturday May 30th:
Thus far concept #26 – dotwoman has done a good job strategically communicating “Community”. We’d like to have all current artists, as well as any new ones review this concept – and submit their own interpretations of using a screen with multiple users inside. Here are the changes we’d like to see you make that will get you ranked closer to #1:
- Babble communicates talking, therefore we don’t need mouths – rather stylized people figures/talking heads.
- We’d like to see variations on the layout of the screen. Big & small screens. Inner boxes could be circles, rectangles, or a combination of – similar to news channels when the host talks to expert people in other cities – and there are 4+ talking heads on the screen at any one time. But there should always be 1 larger host/moderator.
- Both Screen, web cam eye, and people should have a web 2.0 feel/coloration –make it less cartoon looking. Please remember this is a sophisticated technology – yet easy to use, for the masses, website. Therefore the logo should represent a larger business, and not a small shop.
- What makes this concept interesting is it’s not about the Camera, but the screen and the shapes or people in the screen– as that’s what you’re interacting with more than the 1997 looking webcam.
- Logo needs to be more simplified and supporting of the name “Babble Cam”, not dominating over the name. Right now #26 fights too much with the name Babble Cam
Other concepts that fit this new strategy:
#20 – Danoe. This logo is iconic, simple, and has an inner essence of global community.
Regarding the Cam – I think the eye of the cam quickly communicates and supports the “Cam” in babblecam. Examples that are doing this well are #20, #23 and #28 (eye only not overall design)
We hope this new Macro strategy will help everyone and inspire a new direction!
I will be now updating comments on this page – multiple times daily.
