Hi it's late here but I just wanted to acknowledge your submissions, which are all very cute (and you can't imagine just how appropriate a goat is for a company based in Mombasa!). I didn't think I wanted cute or earth tones, but you have made me think again. Definitely I don't think the colour scheme in #58 is right for us. #55 perhaps puts more emphasis upon the recycling theme than I am ready for, and also the colours clash. #56 & #57 are gorgeous as they are, although I might make some suggestions on the colour schemes when I am feeling more awake. I would like to think about them a little more before getting back to you with specific alterations as they are very different from what i thought I wanted. If you have a moment, could change the " Desain " to read " Designs " ? Thank you very much for your beautiful work.

Hello again. YOu have a lot of ideas, thanks for the new ones.

The general concept of #112 & #111 are interesting enough, but there is that pastel rainbow look again. I'm sorry, I just don't like it. Makes me think clip art or the word art feature in MSWord. I'm sure yours isn't, but that's the association I have. I guess I also just like colours that are bright all the way if they're going to be bright.

Again, I didn't think I wanted earth tones but yours are very attractive. I like what you've done with the small text in #113 and I like the overall colouring of the print in that one better than #112 also (more browns than greens). However, I see a possibility in #112 that you may want to play around with: The two i's in the ZIzi look almost like two people gazing at each other across a tabletop, appropriate for the way we get things produced around here. Don't know if the placement of the print was accidental, but the brown triangles look a bit like arms, and the dots of the i's look like caps. As it stands, they look like two Muslim men in prayer hats looking at each other, but with a little tweaking you probably could get two ladies--which is more appropriate for the products we are making. But then we have the problem of the spear, which is not appropriate for ladies but is so clever for holding up the Desain Ltd and tagline. But I leave you to solve the contradictions if you like the idea.

Btw, after looking at #57 for a while, the little figure looks more like an A than an I, which would make the company Zazi. But i'm sure you could sort that outif you play around with it.

Thanks for the very strong submissions. Look forward to your revisions.

Hi, I'm sorry I haven't been able to comment for a while, but thanks for your new designs. your MANY new designs :>).

Everything you have submitted is so cute and well balanced that I am really sad that I probably will not go with a tribal-african looking theme, for the reasons stated in the contest brief.

#162, thanks for solving the problem of the i that looked like an a :>)

#168, I like the fresh colour scheme for the text, makes it possible to really focus on the spear and the patterned goat. Although I like the prints you've used, and that sort of graphic is really typical and abundant here, it's easier to focus and appreciate it more if there is less of it in the design.

The other variations I especially like are #155, 157,159, & #163 for the clever positioning of the figures and text. The hangtag idea is really nice too (#158).

Asante sana!

You have been so busy!

I really like the pallette you're working on in #188-#191. Also, the colours in #187 are very good, although I don't really go for the man in the moon in the second i.

the green background in #191 is very attractive, however, I feel the eye in the background of this one and in #189 make these designs a little too busy.

I prefer #186 to #185, in fact I find it really appealing. Would you be able to work this up in brighter colours similar to those in #187 or #188-191? Also, would be interested to see how this comes out in B/W. Am a little concerned about the disappearing right edge of the skirt, however, as well as the left arm that disappears in the white ground. Perhaps these lines could be extended past the outlines of the Z, if in a percentage. You will need to make the figure stand out from the colourful pattern on the Z.

#182 & #183 are very cute, though I prefer the larger bird (the small one kind of disappears. However, I think the Accessories line needs to be bigger so that it is readable. maybe underneath? Don't know if the bird on #182 can get bigger? and the pallette colourful?

Again, I really appreciate how you are exploring the possibilities of your design, but I think the hat in #181, #183 & #184 sends us off on the wrong track.

Hope this is helpful to you!

Hi, thanks for your latest batch of entries. I saw a lot were withdrawn. I hope that was somehow a result of uploading them twice or something rather than a withdrawal of so much hard work. . . . And apologies again for taking so long to respond.

i think we are finally clicking with a colour scheme that could work for our company with your series including #242,#245,#259,#261, #272 & #274. I do miss that beautiful red that you used in #168.

The little African angel-fairy godmother in #271, #274, #276 & #277 is very cute and inviting and a totally different concept. Also, impossible to tell whether a boy or a girl, so I suppose could work for all my customers, though most products are for women/girls. The sarong is also appropriate for the beachy-hot weather orientation of the products. However, I would like to know what the brown object is at the bottom of both #259 & #261. I like the way the logo rises out of it--it finishes the logo and balances the intense pinks purples and blue--but I know I will be asked what it is.

I also like #274, though I think the font used for #259 or #274 might work better for the Accessories line.

With #261, the Accessories line is too squeezed and is illegible. Please try dropping the Ltd and Designs can take up the Space now used for both words. Then I think you would have to put the Accessories line underneath in a larger point size.

#242 & #245 are clever but somehow the figure reminds me of a cross between Michael Jackson and the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz--a little too technologically advanced to attract buyers to our handmade products. Plus the figure is decidedly male, which as you know won't work for our product lines. If the figures could be cool, fashionable ladies, then the concept could work.

I admire your clever work with the letters in #247, but again I find it too masculine and techno to represent us well.

I also still like the #186, #196, & #211 series and would not mind seeing it in the bright colour scheme. I think the layout of #186 works best (no spear!) but would like to see the same change with the bottom text as requested for #261.

Simplifying still more, #195 is also very strong. Just would like to see the colour volume pumped up (and no spear).

Look forward to seeing your changes! You are a very talented and hardworking designer.

Ujang, thanks for your new entries. I know you must be having fun, or you wouldn't keep coming up with new things, but I just wanted to make sure you knew the competition is closed for new entries. We are in judging mode, which has just been extended.

#313 reminds me of Aphrodite rising from her clamshell, African-Indonesian style. Very classy work.

#311 & #312 are also very beautiful and have a touch of humour as well, something you do very well. I think if I designed a lot of home accessories (for instance lamps), I think these entries would be very appropriate indeed.

All the best with your work, you have been a very worthy competitor!
