Most of this feedback is focused on the icon, not the type. I'm figuring once I dial in the icon for any given designer, I'll be better prepared to give feedback on the lettering.
Very nice proportions between the headphones and wine glass! If anything, the headphones might be too small.
Things I like about this entry:
* The headphones are touching the wine glass instead of floating on a cushion of negative space. * The bowl of the wine glass is proportioned nicely in comparison to the headphones overall * The color * The simplicity of the line art. I even like the highlight included in the "wine"
What's missing for me from this entry:
* The stem is too long in proportion to the bowl of the wine glass. * There needs to be a "top edge" to the wine glass, or at least the suggestion of a top edge. * This is a very static image, very little in the way of dynamic elements (perhaps I need to check my design questionnaire). Possibly something with the surface of the wine in the glass or some other method of conveying "fun" or action/noise/sound. * The typeface is Trebuchet. This is not really a minus, per se, but a request to perhaps try a different sans serif font that conveys technology, modernism, and forward thinking. (I will update the general discussion to include these typeface notes too) * The tagline is small, but that's not a huge deal right now. * The tagline is off-center. Once again, not a huge deal at the moment.
Overall a great first crack at this. Thanks for submitting it!
At first, I thought I liked the notion of the feed icon in the wine itself. Now that I look at it, this doesn't seem to work for me after all. I like the side highlight from Entry #15 better.
Entry #18
Same problem as #17, only now the feed icon is larger and crowds the space between the top of the glass and the bridge of the headphones. I don't know that using the feed icon with the glass is working, but you never know...
I really appreciate these submissions, but I don't see them moving us in the right direction. Thanks and keep it up!
Actually, I was happy there *wasn't* negative space between the glass and the headphones! :-)
The proportions look to be spot on. If there was a way to make the wine glass a little *wider* in girth, that'd be nice, but overall not a big factor.
Still have the previously mentioned issue (Re: #18) with feed icon placement and lack of top-edge to the bowl of the wine glass.
Entry #20
This is the first horizontal treatment of having the graphic to the side of the text. I gotta say that I like it (actually, I like both orientations and would ultimately like to *have* both orientations done). But for website banners, business cards, signage, etc. a landscape orientation works a bit better.
I like the wavy surface, though I'm thinking we might want to stylize the wine in the air to a couple large droplets perhaps. The vertical swirl doesn't look right to me; unfortunately, I can't articulate it better than that right now.
BTW, I do like the varying stroke widths of the fonts as in Entries #15, #17, #18 and #20. Can't say that I feel strongly about the choice of typeface, but it's still not my chief concern.
And per feedback on #19 and #20, I actually prefer not to have negative space between the headphones and the wine glass. That's just me.
Very nice. I like the typeface changes: not too rounded and easy on the eyes.
The wine looks good in the glass too, I actually like this quite a lot now. I'm going to show it to some colleagues and will hopefully have some useful feedback to give. Right now I think I'll just enjoy it as-is.
The feed icons emanating from the earcups is a new approach, similar to another designer, but the fact that it's the feed icon is near enough a difference, I guess.
However, it's not doing it for me. I think the weight of the feed icon graphic itself seems to be too much, and it overpowers the other elements, even when it's a light shade of gray. I don't have much else to say about it at the moment.
Entry #39
I love that it's something new and novel! Using the grape berries themselves to tie the lettering and the feed icon together is really pretty cool. It's another interesting idea, don't know that it meets my needs, but a really nice effort and nicely rendered.
I placed the icon into a square in this one. The icon will work as a standalone, will look great both a vertical and horizontal orientation. the icon can also be used as an avatar on twitter, or on an iphone.
That's a very cool alternative! I like how it draws the eyes with it's weight. The dual highlights on the glass work nicely as well. My wife says she thought it looked like an eye when she walked in the room! LOL
I'd be curious about doing the square as an outline and keep a white or other background color in there.
Very intriguing, please keep it up, and thanks again!
here is another layout option using a horizontal format. I did include a small feed icon after the tagline in place of a period. This option extends the tagline increasing its readability. I think this type of layout would lend itself well to uses such as a website header, bumper sticker, banner, and advertisement.
LOVE the treatment with the background; it really makes the logo stand out! For some reason, the warm tone of gold works better than the silver tone. This just upped the ante.
I wanted to say that I appreciate all of your submissions, and they have come a long way in a week.
You know, I like the headphones from Entry #84 better, even though I recognize them as a silhouette of the headphones in my photograph. I think the one you've been using for days now is better looking, at least to me.
As for the "RADIO" treatment, I have been thinking that I like the idea of the look of having the RSS feed logo bookend the word "RADIO", perhaps so the words don't need to be spread quite so far apart, while still lining up more-or-less with the left and right edges of the text block of "WineBiz", to wit:
((• R A D I O •))
(hope my Mac text input is readable in this comment. We'll see.)
