What We Do
Wekiva Presbyterian Church in Longwood, Florida. Founded in 1977 (46 years), is located in Central Florida near Orlando.
Our mission statement...
Wekiva's Mission Statement: Our mission is to provide a place of worship where we can come together as a Christian family to declare the will and purpose of God by preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and to perpetuate our attitude of service to the families of our community and the benevolent missions of our Church at large.
Our vision statement...
Rooted in Faith
Wekiva is committed to developing disciples who are rooted in scripture, shaped by worship, and formed in prayer. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory. (Isaiah 61:3)
Grounded in Love
Wekiva is a place where the bond of Christian friendship and fellowship draws us into deep and meaningful relationships. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:35)
Moved to Serve
Wekiva is called to strengthen its partnerships in the community as we meet the needs of our neighbors and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. (Matthew 25:40)
The target audience comes from the local Longwood, Florida/Altamonte Springs area. All ages are welcome. We attract members from young adults, families with children to seniors.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We are open to different design concepts. We think since the name is so long, it might be better to stack three words in our name Wekiva Presbyterian Church like...
Wekiva
Presbyterian
Church
We will have a stance line too. We haven't finalized that.
We were thinking of having a design element on the left. You may draw design inspiration from our campanile (which is in front of our church) or the building itself.
Another possibility is to incorporate some of our natural elements in the design. Florida palm trees (should not be a major design element) and water in the design. Our name Wekiva is a Seminole-Creek Indian phrase means 'flowing water'. We are near the Little Wekiva River. It is not very wide as rivers go.
We do want it to be identifiable as a Church. A cross, dove, stained glass, and Bible are fine elements to use in the design. If you use a cross, do not have Jesus on it. As Presbyterian, we believe the cross is empty because He is risen.
