#4, clever to reference the earlier contest. Not quite sure how it would integrate into the overall back label design. I'll give it a think. Also re:GS1 standards, I think we need a little more barcode line showing. I'll bone up on standards and revert.
This might work, I like how it almost looks like a stamp. Notice the QR code of #3, I think that is agood idea and something I'll keep in mind in the overall design of the back label.
#12 again, having trouble thinking how it will integrate into the overall design. I think the lines morphing into the vines and then having the logo run clear might be better. Perhaps it projects into the colored space of the label. ie white space for barcode and then vine 'growing' into the colored part of the label.
Not convinced about #17 and #18. Again, confusion is overall back label design. If I was going to do it. I would probably change the orientation, so the strips are horizontal like wine in a glass, and possibly tip the glass like someone was drinking out of it. Lastly, I would maybe use a classic burgundy style glass. But all this is probably spending time on something that would not work.
#21 priceless. One of the SAWIS warnings that I have been toying to use is number 7. Put that warning in the box. Also try it with a tilted wine glass to give it a bit of action, possibly swirling or tipsy, or like it was going to clink 'glasses' with the warning box.. I think I would also show the curved end of the bottle, just to give it closure: and finally a mini version of the label and / or logo. What also might work is if the wine bottle projected outside the barcode, pouring the curvy liquid down. Then the warning could be on the side, along with a QR code, taking up the full width of the back label. ==========BELOW IS FROM SAWIS GUIDELINES=============== Use any one of the messages below. The first three are preferred.
Alcohol reduces driving ability, don't drink and drive. Drinking during pregnancy can be harmful to your unborn baby. Alcohol abuse is dangerous to your health. Alcohol increases your risk to personal injuries. Alcohol is a major cause of violence and crime. Alcohol is addictive. Don't drink and walk on the road, you may be killed.
#17,#18,#19 - just not wine like enough and or different to anything that has been done before. I think we can put this to bed for these and all the other reasons i have used for them.
Had a variant idea on #12, what if you reduced the length of the lines. Put the numbers at the top, have the trunk up the side, the cordon below or above the numbers and have the canes going down (the thicker lines) with the grapes at the bottom.
Good try at #25, The issue is that the barcode is not really part of the design (and I've made this comment on the contest as a whole). Let's put this thread to rest. I lke #24. What if the bar code was rotated 270 degrees and the bottle while retaining some white space had wavy bar code lines in it? An other idea here might be to make the bottle a light red back ground. Apparantly because the scanner lasers are generally red, red back grounds are ok.
#28 - An all red background won't work because of the color pallete for the back label. Also the warning has to be black letters on a white background. I like the imbalance of #24 over #27. #26 I think I would carry the black lines through the bottle and lower the red to show that wine has left the bottle and why not make all the wine red (glass and flow).
"Alcohol reduces driving ability, don't drink and drive." to run in a different vein. What if that was the warning - Text box at top or bottom. The barcode lines are vertical, but you get the impression you are looking over the steering wheel and the lines project ahead and then get either blurry or distorted or there is an approaching car/truck/bicycle/person?
Brendan - A few more tips for you before I release to the crowd. Other themes: _ Franschhoek is a big restaurant foodie scene. -- South Africa - people think of big game. perhaps the bars are savannah grass and big cat is peering above, perhaps they are trees and a giraffe is sticking his head above, perhaps svelte moneys are swinging through them...
#62 - very cool. I have a lot of my own shots I could add into the mix. Two things, I think keeping in mind the black label it might make more sense to swap black and white (of course you can't so that for the bar code itself). Also I'd be a lot more subtle. The giraffe's head might just be visible reaching up to reach some tasty leaves. The lioness or lion might just be peering above the grass.
Hello Brendan, OK in final judging mode now. I don't think any of your entries is going to top the list, but you'll be somewhere in the top 10. Thanks for your help and assistance. Glad you are otherwise busy.
