on #216, I may be looking for the impossible - maybe to make the A and circle work together means losing a lot of what makes #144 and
#159 so appealing. In #144 and
#159, the fact that the type occupieds a single band across (and that all letters are flush top and bottom to that band) makes the design clean and lets the crescent really pop out for the contrast. I see what you're doing on #216 to make the A work, but the resulting type treatment is less interesting, and because it is busy-er, the crescent doesn't stand out as much either.
