Really like this one, can you play with colours a bit please? And somehow the "g" at the end seems a bit dominant, probably due to the quite bold "swoosh" of the "g"
I'll experiment with different colours and take some weight off of the g's tail. I'm committed to other projects right now, so will work on this first thing tomorrow.
I had a little bit of time to experiment and wondered if you like the look of a double storey 'g'? And, what about the colours - is the orange too loud?
I will upload a revision to the original 'g' tomorrow.
Re: #125, #126 and #127 - I've shaved some weight off of the tail of the 'g' and also increased the gap between the bowl and the tail. If this still strikes you as too heavy/unbalanced, I can tweak it further or else experiment with another font.
As well as a couple of colour variations, I've modified the top of the 't' and swapped the circular dot for a square one over the 'i'.
Very nice. We like #113 and #114 the best, but the different "g" somehow does not fit. Can you use the other g which you slightly amended (i.e. where you made the "swoosh" a bit lighter")?
Colors #125 and #127 are indeed too loud. Keep going!
I've replaced the 'g' in #113 and #114. Do you also prefer the original 't' and 'i', or did you like the changes made to the style of those letters in #127?
Just to let you know, I will be leaving the house within the next hour or so; I'm going to watch Tottenham in the Europa League this evening and won't be back until the early hours of tomorrow morning. I might be able to log in via mobile while I am away, but will not be able to upload any revisions.
If you have any other ideas or requests that I am unable to work on before I leave, I will make them my priority first thing tomorrow.
Hope your team can keep it up until the end. As a quick heads up, you are doing like your team, you are still in the lead. Really like what you did so far. As you can see from our picks, we like the "g" with the lighter tail and round dot on the "i". Can't really think of anything to improve for these two.
What would be really cool is if you gave it a completely new shot. Possibly you can seal the victory with another original idea? Sort of like a fine cross finishing with a stiff header right under the crossbar...
In truth, we were quite ordinary (Lamella and Rose, in particular, performed very badly) and I do worry about how well we will do this season. But a win is a win and it was a great night out.
I just got back home, so I'm going to get some beauty sleep and come back to this in the morning. I'll try to develop some new ideas but, if you can think of any variations to the current design, please let me know and I'll provide them.
Thanks... it was my son's first 'real' game having only ever seen our local town side, so it was a great experience for him as well.
We're both looking forward to the RWC too - we're off to a pretty good start (10-0 against Fiji as I write) though I have a feeling the ABs will become the first team ever to defend the their title.
The relatively slow flow of new ideas is not through lack of trying; a lot of the concepts that come to mind as possibilities have already been submitted by other designers (or else something very similar has been submitted) and we have to be careful not to step on each others' toes. That said, we have a few more hours of the open phase, so I am hopeful of being able to give you something else to consider before the next round.
wow Steve - haven't had a chance to touchbase with my colleagues yet but you really surprised me with ad #192 - looks very cool! Could you try to include the pairing of two letters like in # 128 or do you think that would be a overkill?
anyway really appreciate your efforts - good job! Best Oliver
I've uploaded a version with the paired letters - please see #193.
I don't think it's overkill... I prefer #193 over #192 for sure.
I'm going to log off now, but if you have any ideas for developments of this, or any of the submissions so far, please let me know and submit them tomorrow morning before the next phase of your contest begins.
Good morning, Oliver - I've uploaded two designs, each with two slightly different treatments.
#206 and #209 use the same colour scheme as #129, but #209 uses a graduated highlight over the letters so they fade from orange to the dark blue, whereas #206 is solid.
#207 and #208 experiment with the same ideas, but using a lighter blue.
Would you like to see any other colours and/or treatments?
#215 is a possible alternative letterhead option, retaining the light-on-dark colour scheme, but containing it within a rectangle so that it will work on white stock.
I can not believe that. What a try in overtime, absolutely crazy. Good on Japan, they played the match of their live. And what bold decision to go for the scrum and not the safe tie with a penalty!
But now back to business :-) We love the idea of the spotlight, very original. But somehow we still prefer #129 and #128, probably because they are just quieter and really easy to look at. I think what we would like as our end product is #129 as the logo for the website, letterheads etc. and #128 as the design for our business cards.
What do you think? We intend to terminate the tournament early sometime tomorrow during the day. And as you can see, we have killed all other logos, so I guess you are our winner :-)
I was astonished they went for the scrum and, at one point, I was sure they had missed their chance. I was delighted for them when they went over the line. As you say, they played the match of their lives and thoroughly deserved their win.
Regarding the logos, I understand your thinking. I did occur to me that the spotlight version might make an interesting animated project, but for your primary web site and stationery/collateral usage, I agree the others are better suited.
It's great to be in contention at this stage, particularly as your current top rank, but I've been in enough contests to know never to take anything for granted. :) With that in mind, how do you feel about the colours in #128 and #129? I did lighten the blue slightly on some of the more recent entries (#214) just to mix things up a bit.
Are you settled on the existing colours or would you like to have a look at some variations?
Very true what you say about the spotlight version, when I think of an animation Pixar comes to mind. Love it.
We did notice the slight variations of the blue but like the contrast of the dark blue with the orange in #128. But variations are always welcome :-) Feel free to explore the universe of colours. I have a feeling though that the combination blue-white-orange will be hard to beat. But hey, the Cherry Blossoms beat the Springboks. Anything seems possible these days.
I'll put together some alternative colours in the morning. I think the blue and orange scheme is quite striking, but it's well worth exploring other options. If you have any particular colours you'd like me to try out, please let me know.
Personally I am very happy with the colours of #128 and #129 - i really like the darker blue. I will consult with my colleagues and get back to you. In case we are done do you know can we shortcut the tournament by finishing it earlier in the management section?
Steve - sorry . with regards to the colours. you came up with the orange in the first place and we really liked it. We would really like to give you a "card blanche" on the colours - just surprise us. We are sure you have way more experience on what works and what doesn't and if not we have a very, very good fall back option with #128 and #129 - would you agree?
Firstly, I accidentally hit withdraw on entry #129. I reinstated the design immediately, so there is no problem, but if you get a strange notification, please ignore it. :)
I agree with you about colours; the blue/orange/white scheme is strong, but I think it is good to look at others. The worst that can happen is you don't like any of the new ones and, as you say, you will still be left with one you like. I am working on this now and will upload some variations soon.
In terms of how your contest management panel works, I am not familiar with the detail, but I do believe you can end your contest at any time.
You'd be surprised how many contest holders start a contest, but don't get involved. It's fantastic that you have been so engaged with the community throughout this contest and, on a personal level, it's great to have struck up such a strong relationship with you. Thank you!
Earlier in the contest, I tried a couple of alternative colour combinations and they were probably either too weak (mint) or too loud (fuchsia), so I have kept to what might be considered more traditional schemes. I have tried several other options, but not all translate well when reversed onto a white background.
I've uploaded dark background versions only at this stage. If you think any have potential, I will upload the white background version. I am still experimenting with this so may have more soon.
You might notice there were 8 new dark background variations (#217 - #224), but only 7 letterhead versions (#225 - #231). This is because #217 and #221 both reverse out to #225.
thanks a lot for all the variations. Helped us get that final confirmation and certainty that we want to stick to #128 and #129. As mentioned, #129 will be our logo that we use on the website and print, and #128 we would like to use for our business cards (i.e. one side with the logo and coordinates on a the other side on plain white background,)
What is the font you used? We want to use it as our company font. Or would you think we should use this font for titles only and another one for text body? Any suggestions welcome from a real pro :-)
I agree with you about the colours - the more variations I produced, the more convinced I was #128 and #129 were by far the strongest.
The font is actually a customised version of my own font! :) I've designed and published a number of fonts over the last 18 months; the one used here is called 'Larke Neue Bold' and it was actually only published last week.
There are three weights available - thin, regular and bold - which would give you enough variety to use it as a corporate typeface without diluting the logo. You can download it from http://www.dafont.com/larke-neue.font. You'll see the default character set includes a single-storey 'a' and 'g', but all three fonts also include double-storey variations, as well as Latin small caps, old style numerals and a good range of European language characters.
I'm just about to put my youngest two to bed but, if you get a chance, perhaps you could download the fonts and check they contain all the characters you might need. It's a simple thing to add new characters if needed.
