enzobluebird- thanks for submitting. I like your design but not sure how this works... we're in the top 5 phase, does that mean I can move you into top 5 even though I didn't have you there during the open phase? anyway, we like the feel of your design, and the relief of the mountain in #47... we like your smoke tendrils, but we think having so many is distracting... maybe try only doing the one in the center? and if it splits is too much maybe it doesn't make it all the way to the top? We'd also be curious about getting the juniper to look a little more branch like, rather than "star burst" looks, though this in the end may be better design, hard to tell. typically when it's being burned it's in little twigs/branches, etc. look forward to seeing more.

just another option too, perhaps the other smoke tendrils aside from the center one could still be there but not opaque at all so they are quite transparent. anyway, some thoughts. thanks for submitting.

Thanks for your feedback.
#73 & #74 - I have changed the smoke and the juniper elements in these two designs. In #74 the smoke is transparent. I think the shape of the central mountain could be improved but let me know what you think.
#75 & #76 - designs with a different arrangement of the smoke.

enzobluebird-.
I like the look of the central mountain as of now. I'm liking these because they have a somewhat "himalayan" feel to them, and I've ranked a couple up there with the different smoke tendrils, but having a hard time deciding which we like best between all three. Certainly the more transparent smoke, with the mountain's relief shading intact I think is where we are going. One more item is that even though it may be nice for the graphic element we've never seen juniper seeds burning in these ceremonies, and I'm not even sure that the himalayan juniper has seeds of much size. perhaps try next a version with just the branches and some more green on them(?). i'm going to try posting a couple photos in the overview. liking general feel...

i put the two photos in the contest brief for people to reference the juniper more closely

#81 & #82 - versions of #74 with redesigned branches and leaves without the berries. There is also a lighter colour brown for the branches. In #82 the branches are smaller.
#83 - here the foliage is bolder and you see less of the branches. The brown is the same as #74.
I'll try a version of #49 with the new branches next.

I think I might have another go at the foliage - looking at it again they look like holly leaves.

#86 - a better version of the foliage.

#88, #89 & #90 - a different arrangement of the branches which looks more heaped and perhaps more recognisable as a small fire.

Hey enzobluebird.
Thanks. This are better, let's use #88 as the one to work on the juniper... after that I'll bring in my partner to discuss options on the smoke, and mountain. If you could take #88 and add some small green bits in a few random spots on the branches so that it's not just the ends of them that have green on them (and so it's not too symmetrical- like #83 for example). Then I think we might be there in terms of the juniper. the other item is to maybe make the green on the juniper less saturated or more opaque, but some tone/hue, as the green in the Juniper lettering. I think that might feel slightly better.

#91, #92 & #93 - there are three different greens in these designs, and I've added a pile of ash at the bottom of the fire and some additional green bits.
#93 also has a different brown and a slight change to the transparency and shape of the smoke, and some more green bits near the bottom of the fire.

thanks so much. I'm liking these and think these are all really close and lots of options to choose from. we are going to do a little work on one other logo and see if it goes anywhere, then get in a couple other board members, and get back to you. thanks so much.

Thank you for your feedback. One other thing which might be worth trying with my designs is to make 'Fund' a little smaller than it is at present. I think it might be an improvement.
Let me know if you would like any further amendments.

Hi EnzoBluebird.
I know you're not ranked now 1st so you can't submit, but I think we'll get back to you. I'm finally getting a meeting tomorrow afternoon with my co founder. We will speak, then I think we may come back to you and I know at that point we'll have a couple days to finalize the design. Here is where I think we'll go with it but don't want to start until I get confirmation.
I think we'll likely use the green of #82. I do think we'll take down the font size of 'Fund', I know you mentioned this too. I think matching 'The' of close will be better. Don't mind the size of Juniper.
For the juniper I think we may go with the design of #82 or #86... the design of the juniper in #89, #90 is too symetrical at the bottom- cutting the twigs off to stay in the design of the circle.
Then the mountain/sky/smoke would either be #93 or #90.
I'll get back to you.
Thanks so much

Enzobluebird...
So I talked to the co-founder and we'd like to work with you to finish this up. Both of our concerns are mainly surrounding getting the juniper a little bit better. Then picking the green color and which sky/mtn/smoke seems like it will be easy and we'll pick from existing submissions.

So, here is our take on the juniper... I think that the closest we got was #82 and #86 and this was because it looks a little more haphazard- the branch on the right is on top of leaves so looks a little more random. My partner thinks the closest we got was #92, and that I mainly think is because I think you can see the woody part of the juniper going up through the leaves (but may not come through with a darker green). But, I don't like the conformity of the ends being cut off at the bottom of the circle.

If you can take those comments and try and do something where we see the "stems" or the woody part of the juniper running through the green, and having a bit more random assortment- stems overlapping on top of green in a spot or two. As well, keeping it so that the green or brown extends beyond the edge of the circle so it's not "so much" a circle.

Then we'll either use the mtn/sky/smoke of #93 or #90. Then we'll have to pick the green out of the #90, #91, #92 options after. We'd also like to see the Fund smaller as you suggested.

Great work! Look forward to trying to get this wrapped up.

one more comment I forgot. To help the juniper look we think if there were a way to separate the green off of the branches slightly instead of it all being bunched in "clumps" it might help. Having a few more, but smaller sprigs of green coming off of the "branches" or "stems".
thanks!

New versions #104, #105 & #106.
To my mind in #104 there are too many branches and not enough foliage, and the fire is starting to look like a bird's nest.
I think #105 and #106 are better. In #106 I have added red to the branches at the bottom of the fire to look like glowing embers.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks! It looks like I might not be able to have feedback from my partner who's traveling and out of touch for you today. I know it's your morning now.
I extended the judging two days.
We'll get to discuss later today USA time and then will pick one of the juniper versions and do some last tidying up. thanks

Hi enzobluebird.
We're ready to finish up.
We think #104 is pretty much it, with a couple tweaks. We actually like the way the branches look in that one, but don't like the ashes. We don't think it needs to actually represent a fire, so we'd like to just drop the ashes. We like the way they extend past the edges of the "circle" and kind of create a flat base for the circular design above. There's no need to represent the edges of the circle below the branches, just drop out the grey ashes, and leave that transparent or "white".
We also like the smoke, mountains, colors, etc. in #104.

We also like the relationship of the fonts sizes between The Juniper Fund. But, we'd also ask to have one other version that brings the all of it very slightly down in size.

We'll then pick the winner out of two that both have what I described for the branches, fire, ashes and existing on the font and other elements. And then one the same but just the font size brought down slightly.
thanks so much

#107 & #108 - versions of #104 without the the ash and with the font size smaller in #107.

Thanks.
We're going to select you as the winner.

Are you able to give us two of your submissions? I'm not sure how this all works since first time.
If so, I'd very much like to have #49 and #108. I like your original Juniper representation there, and the other person likes the realistic branches of #108. I'm going to work on integrating the two in the future to convince my partner to use the juniper element of #49 with the rest of number #108. I think that will be our ideal logo. Much graphically more appealing.

Thanks so much for all of your work. Let me know if and how we can get both.
cheers

Both logos is fine with me, although it would be nice if there could be an extra payment for a second logo. Two logos for the price of one doesn't sound very fair to me. Maybe the second logo could be half the prize amount of the first? Let me know what you think.

Enzobluebird.
I'd be willing to do that if you put the logo together as I described above. Let me know if that works and I'll check it with my partner and ok it too.
Thanks.

for now I'll finish the contest. thanks.

Thanks for choosing #108 as the winner. I'll get on with producing the final files.
Regarding the second version, which style of smoke do you want and do you want the mountains to be just plain white?

We'd want it to be exactly the same as #108, just with the Juniper element like the #49
