THE FREE HANDLogo Design Contest

The Free Hand is an arts-based non-profit that creates programs, experiences and opportunities for artists to engage with cultural issues through our three core values; community, creativity and justice.

The target audiences are boundary pushing artists/creatives of any and every discipline imaginable; as well as individuals and organizations that would donate to an arts nonprofit.

I'm looking for an overlapping, contemporary, stained glass concept and would like literally every color used except for white; including black, brown and grey.

EDIT ::: I should clarify that I am looking for a stand alone icon (the hand) with text placed underneath of it ("THE FREE HAND"). The image of the hand and the text should not interact with each other. :::

I have a pretty specific concept that I'm looking for; however, I'm all about letting artists be artists... so if you have an idea outside of this brief, please feel free to submit it. It would be possible, but difficult, to sway me from this idea.

I'm looking for a MODERN/CONTEMPORARY, CLEAN, INSPIRING logo. ALSO "BRIGHT BUT CALM" IS A PHRASE THAT HAS COME UP.

For the icon, I'm looking for a hand (palm side up) with the thumb pointing to the right (please see the three reference photos of the hand). I'm wanting an "overlapping puzzle", contemporary ,"stained glass" effect using every color (including grey and brown)... except for white (as it is the background color).

It should be a sort of overlapping tapestry (there may be a specific name for this style of design but I don't know what it is).

To keep it modern and clean, I don't think there are any black line borders; however, I'm also open to showing a grid-like/geometric image of the hand with the shapes filled with color... OR having a sort of watercolor effect behind the geometric grid (see tattoo references).

I want to emulate the feeling of the iconic hand reaching to God (see reference) without literally copying it. Please see the "stylereference" photos for the design aesthetic I'm looking for.

[For the integrity of the competition, and those who have submitted thus far (7 submissions), I'm keeping the next paragraph in... HOWEVER;

WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE TEXT "THE FREE HAND" IN THE SAME STYLE AS THE LAST TWO REFERENCE PICTURES.]

I'm pretty sure the text (THE FREE HAND) will probably just end up being a simple, modern font. I'm open to things here... however there is already a logo for a retail store called "Freehand" which has "free" in a more cursive font. So, although that was my original concept, it may be smart to stay away from that concept but if you feel inspired, run with it. The font should be extremely clean and simple. As there will be so much color in the icon, I imagine the text underneath should be without color.

Ultimately, we are an arts-nonprofit that wants to empower and engage artists as leaders in the Renaissance that we believe is coming; therefore, although it is a "logo", it should inspire like a beautiful artpiece.

Also, a big plus if artists are willing to send the original project file so that in the future we would be able to make a moving image (think of the Production Company bumpers at the beginning of a film), that would be extremely helpful.
