What We Do
We are a small farm specializing in white corn. Our corn is sold to Mexican bakeries who make fresh tortillas with the corn. Terra Grana is Latin for "grains of the earth." We are looking into branching into other areas of agriculture, possibly including chickens, turkeys, and vegetables. Corn therefore might be a part of the logo (either the ear or the kernel), but I'd like to find a way to work other aspects of the business into the image. I am inclined to think that a more abstract image may work better than the grossly-overdone barn, ear of corn, tractor, etc. However, the image needs to connect w/ the audience. The buyers work with us because of the quality of the grain produced, the regular sterilization of the grain holding areas, and the efforts to avoid genetic cross-contamination. We want to communicate the quality of the grain (minimal foreign matter; whole, uncracked kernels; no mold) while appearing to sell something that will taste great.

Color Preferences
Gold, green, blue, yellow, brown, orange. However, I am open to other concepts. Strangely, I have no preconceived notions about what this should look like.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
I like the logos at adm.com, monsanto.com, and less so pioneer.com. Not crazy about agrigold.com 's logo though.

I like the logos so far, but I am wondering whether the gold / brown gives a burned impression. I want to give the impression of life, freshness, growth. I think brown is a good, earthy accent, but it needs to be toned down.

Hi all, I thought it might be helpful to see what corn looks like. Here's an image of the leaf attached to the stalk:

Here are the roots. At the end of the plant's life, they stand up a bit out of the ground, almost like a tripod (but more than 3 legs, obviously):

Here is corn as tall as it gets. This corn has tassled (see the stuff sticking out of the top). There are silks and the corn ears here are very small.

The type of corn that they make tortillas out of is not like sweet corn. It is drier, and it has a dent on the top of the kernel. It looks like this.

There used to be a fertilizer company called Terra. I want to avoid any resemblance to their (very familiar) logo:
