Top Three Things to Communicate

#1 - taste, refinement
#2 - play, entertainment, satisfaction
#3 - trying new things

Our Target Audience:

The core audience is anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch who is overwhelmed by the amount of application choices and wants guidance. They could be teenagers all the way up to seniors, with a core audience from 20-40. This needs to be hip enough to appeal to young readers, and not so technical or complex that it turns off older readers. The audience is probably slightly more male than female, though female gamers do now outnumber men. The typical reader is educated, likes electronics or gadgets but isn't necessarily obsessed with them. They live worldwide, but we are an English language publication.

Color Preferences

We leave color choice to the designer; we don't want it too complex, though; black or grey + one or two spot colors is preferred.

Our Ideas and Additional Information:

Note that the name is a play on "appetizer". Though there is an obvious correlation with food, we want our branding to define it instead of rushing into a one-to-one relationship with food. So if it's not completely about food, what is it about? It's about: snacks, taste, bites, morsels, hunger, satisfaction, appetite -- basic needs, variety, trying new things, offering, and condensing large into small.

Note apps are used by touching the screen, so visuals that evoke touch, tactility will be good. We're interested in seeing both literal and abstract approaches.

Hi there; the process of evaluating these is harder than we thought it would be. Great work, everyone. I know we said don't get too into the food aspect, but it might be nice to see someone try that direction without being too heavy handed; perhaps a food-related icon (cherry? toothpick? something else simple?) inside an app square.
