Thank you for looking at the context document and "inspiration" photos of the historic coal car. I'd
could you add color and play with a few more concepts? I'd rank this 2nd or 3rd right now if my touch screen would let me drag. Thanks for submitting, I look forward to seeing more!

Love the curved tracks. Would like to see it without the background or with a different background. Also love the simplicity and that it works in black and white.

#36 this is great. I'd rank it 2nd.

It feels a little top- heavy to me. Could you trymoving the book car up to the center, and the "book depot" text to the bottom?

Also, I'd like to make the text a bit lighter and more legible? Perhaps eliminate orreduce the weight of the outline and add more white to the gradient?

Could we see 34 in brown? Also, could you articulate the medalion on the coal car? i,e. Make it an open book, or text reading "established 2010".

#36 - please make suggested changes to remain in #1 - basically, it will be a #39 with the background and coloring of #36. The dimensions and relative size of the text to the cart in #39 are a much better fit for signage, will make the logo pop, and will make the text easily readable from a distance.

#37 - like the idea, but the car is too small, and the vacant space wont translate to a sign. please see comments above.

34, 35, 37, 38, 39 - the green looks good in the logo, but isn't a great match for our store. Brown is better.

Re: Entry #36. Could you incorporate blue into the logo? We would love to see one version with a blue medallion on the coal car, blue books, and blue text, and another version with a blue background color? Could you also try a version where you insert a range of colors for the books and add color to the medallion?
Colors we'd lean toward at this point are blues, reds, and yellows, but do use your design sense and make any additional modifications that you think will improve the overall appearance of the logo while adding color to spice it up and grab the attention of passersby. Thank you so much!

Excellent. Here are the color #'s for the blue's we're considering for the interior accent walls of the bookstore:
PMS: DS 220-7 U C30 M10 Y 5 K20
The Teal Blue DS 245-6 U C50 M5 Y20 K25
If we could incorporate these it would be a great match.

The blue pennant lamp we're considering using inside the bookstore can be found on the second to last page of the context document: http://www.pittsburgfoundation.org/files/BookstoreLogo_Context.pdf.

If you could do a version with a variety of color, use your artistic digression.
Thank you so much for the wonderful designs! If we select a final color design from you will it be easy to convert into grayscale in Adobe Photoshop/EPS?

Thank you!

Will do that mam, i will upload them by tonight.
conversion color to grayscale is very easy, only by one click, But i will provide the grayscale for you mam, that's an option in winning contract

By the way, medailon in #36 is said "RBD" but in newest version we using "Est.2010"...
Do you want to use the "Est.2010" or keep the "RBD" ?

Wow, color and greyscale? Excellent. Thank you! We want to be sure that the logo is easily printed on a variety of media, from color bookmarks, to black and white letterhead, to embroidered shirts. Is it possible to get the design in color, greyscale, and black & white? If not, I believe we can do it ourselves with the EPS file - is that correct? Are the contest holders permitted to modify a design?

Great question about the medallion - we'd like to use Est. 2010.

Thank you so much for your amazing design work, Medi! We appreciate all the time you have put in to this logo for us!

Could we modify #61 so that the background behind the coal car and the "book depot" text matches the lighter coloring of #62? also, could you switch the color of the medallion so that the medallion is blue and the "est. 2010" is brown or black?

An additional take on this version with the light background might include various shades of blues/greens/purples in the books.

Thanks so much!

Excellent! Thank you!
#66 is exactly what we were looking for when we sent you the colors. This is great.

I really like the direction that #68 is going with the colors, but I wonder if we could try a few different color schemes? These would keep the brown double border around the outside, the railroad track, and cart colors as they are in the brown tones, but would modify the colors of the books, the text, the medallion, and the background to incorporate the following colors as noted below. I've included ideas for placement in the parentheses, but feel free to use your artistic judgement.

C M Y K - Blue, Purple, Green scheme
68 27 20 0 Blue (background behind the cart and the text)
72 68 39 23 Dark Purple (books, medallion)
55 55 33 7 Light Purple (books)
48 18 67 1 Green (books)
5 4 3 0 White (text, books, medallion)

C M Y K - Blue scheme
68 27 20 0 Blue (background behind the cart and the text)
65 44 38 8 Dark Gray Blue (books, outside border of text, or leave text brown as it is)
11 4 7 0 Light Blue (books)
36 58 68 18 Brown (text, or leave text brown as it is)
5 4 3 0 White (books,anywhere if it fits)
Feel free to vary the shades of the blues by adding more or modifying the darkness/lightness/brightness so that the books are all different tones/colors of the same basic blues noted in this scheme.

I can't tell you how much we appreciate your amazing design sense and hard work to help us get the perfect logo for our non-profit bookstore that will benefit the children in our community. You are extremely talented and we are lucky to have found you in this contest! Thanks Medi!

Good Morning Medi! Looks like the sun is just now rising in Jakarta :)

These revisions are great! My two favorites are #69 and #67. In #69, the purple, green, and blue scheme, I absolutely love how you brought the colors together. Iove the lightness and brightness of the white text with the colors - this logo would definitely grab attention from passersby walking down the street, and would be a great color guide as we design the bookstore's interior and the bookstore's website. In #67, I love the classic aesthetic of the rich, warm, browns - it would be a perfect fit for a bookstore, and it is simple, clean, and straightforward.

I could easily see the cart on #69 translating into signage within the store, and the logo as it stands would translate into a beautiful exterior sign. For mass printing, we'd likely need to print it in black and white or greyscale, but the lines, font, and concept are so unique that they will stand alone just fine without color.

I'd like to try another blue scheme if we could. Could you see about modifying Concept #67 to incorporate the following blue colors into the places that are currently colored blue? These are a bit brighter:

CMYK:
51 24 9 0 Oh Bother Blue
81 33 6 0 Home Town Hero Blue
54 19 11 0 Ocean Cruises Blue
19 10 8 0 Blue color used in #67

I want to see if we can combine the simplicity of #67 with the brightness and excitement of #69.

Thanks Medi!

Hi Medi,

These are great. Thank you for being so responsive.

Could you revise logos #62, #67, #73, and #76 to show white text inside the medalion, or a color other than black/brown? The logos that have the brown medallion to match the cart look great with the black/brown "est. 2010" text (i.e. #70), but I think I prefer the logos with the colored medallion to have the white text, as shown in #69. If the lighter text isn't readable in the medallions (i.e. #76), then I'd like to see the medallion changed back to match the brown of the cart, as done in logo # 70.

Thanks Medi,
Ali

Medi, these are great. I'd like to think about trying a different font, perhaps one with cleaner lines that is less graphic and more sleek.
Thanks,

Hello Ali,

Hi Medi,
You're right. the original font looks best. Could you tell me the name and where I can download it? We're about to select the design as our winner, but I want to be sure we can download the same font to use on our letterhead. If we lose the opportunity to communicate, I can be reached at aendress@pittsburgfoundation.com.
Thanks Medi!
