Color Preferences
Open to ideas, and bold use of color if the professional character can be maintained. Generally want to avoid purple, brown, or orange as main color.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We look forward to your creativity!

It is important that the logo characterize our location in Washington DC. We like the idea of using the U.S. Capital Dome, but simple, abstract depictions of a dome on its own are not specific enough to Washington DC. The DC skyline is also an idea we like (see attached image), but may be too complex/detailed for the logo. These are examples, but we would really welcome any creativity around the representation of our Washington DC location.

Images of the American flag to connote Washington DC are not appropriate for this logo since our clients and members come from many nationalities.

Other information:

We are one of about 20 regional chapters and affiliates of the American Translators Association

The new logo will be prominently featured on a new website also in development now.

It is possible, but not necessary, to incorporate our acronym: NCATA, but only in addition to the full name- not on its own.

I am glad to see designs so quickly. Still waiting to see additional ideas before I give detailed feedback, but a couple of things I can say at this point:

1. One of the particulars of our business that is not properly reflected in our name is that the word "Translator" does NOT refer to someone who coverts one language to another via spoken word, but rather someone who works with written documents. Someone who converts between languages orally is called an "Interpreter." Yes, it is certainly an arcane distinction to the general public, but to our target market it is quite significant. I say this because any suggestion that a Translator "speaks" would seem strange to our target market!

2. Generally, I think the use of the comic book-style speech bubbles, even in a non-comic way as in #2 and its variations, is probably a little too "fun" for our logo.

Thanks! ...more to follow

Since we are getting near the end of the contest, I thought I would "bite the bullet" and start to rule out some designs, as a way to be more specific about what we want, and make the rankings make more sense. I hesitate to do this because I so appreciate every single entry. But I am hoping this will be helpful. Thanks!

Hello!

I did a quick ranking this morning while I had time. Will have more feedback a bit later. Thank you very much for your all your submissions.

Hello all,

Just want to keep you up to date on our process during judging. I have invited my colleagues to review the designs now ranked 1 through 5. I have asked them to disregard the actual rankings in LT for now, and just tell me which they prefer out of those 5. I may move a design in and out of the top spot so that I can request minor revisions.

Thank you so much for the incredible work. Choosing will be VERY tough!

Regards,
Diane
