Brian's comments: Interesting concept. I like the idea... I think it lacks a lot of refinement though. The skyline approach replacing some buildings with people in handstands is creative. I'd be interested in seeing something a little bit more vibrant, with more dimension and perspective.
Lauren's feedback #48 Yes this is a very different direction! Interesting!! I would also like to see a skyline made of people in handstands, lotus handstands, or other advanced yoga poses.
I feel that the font needs to be one in which the A's are crossed. I like that it is simple and clean! Something brighter/more vibrant would be great!! Keep it up :) I can't wait to see more
Another great concept. Lauren and I both really like it, but have a few concerns. I find that due to the concave nature of the figures the logo becomes to skinny and draws in too much. I would rather see something popping out. We also find it looks a little too much like a XXX or KKK , blades of grass or teepee tents.
One idea I had was to wrap the figures together forming a ring (you may need to add in a few others). It could also be cool to interchange the head position, going from headstand to standing etc... so the dot alternates from top to bottom. That would fix the concave issue and give it a cool 3d effect.
We're also not so loving the colour choices. Perhaps more vibrant blues and turquoises?
Lauren's feedback: #61 is very different from everything we've seen!
I would be curious to see how it would look if the figures of people in handstands were used as the As in YOGA SHALA ... just a thought. I don't know if it would work at all.
So far your concepts have been so different from all the others. You have a great creative imagination and I can't wait to see more from you!
Lauren's feedback: More great entries! For me #84 has way too much shading and I don't really like orange. #89 is pretty cool! I'm not sure though if our sign will be on white or on color... I'd love to see a rendition of this on a white background, with perhaps a turquoise person.
#86 - I feel the person is too cartoonish, but I like this idea. It intrigues me. I'm not sure if I LOVE it, but I want to sit with it more. I'm sure Brian will give his feedback soon. The colors are great.
Your concepts continue to excite me! Keep it up :)
Lauren's feedback: #88 and #89 I realized what didn't sit with me: The two hands... it creates an extra bit of business that isn't necessary. Also, often from a sideview you can only see one hand of a person doing a handstand.
Can you try this concept but removing the hand in the back? It is cool, it also looks like a 3rd eye!
Lauren's feedback: To me entry #90 looks like children rejoicing. It is a bit childish for me. How can we make it look more refined and adult? The concept is good!
Lauren's feedback: #91 you're awesome. You continually produce creative designs and you really listen to feedback :) Can you try with the people facing inwards instead of outwards? That way the top of the logo (i.e. the biggest handstand) is rightside up?
#90 #91 #92 the people are still upside down. It is cool to see the logo as all one color though, now we know how the symbol can look as a standalone as a watermark or silk screened on to something. Can you flip the people so the hands go toward the center? Keep up the awesome work! Your logos are so creative! If you have any more ideas, feel free to send them along!
Good creative approaches. With some refinement hopefully we can get something working. I like the concept of #86 in conjunction with a #90 type image. #86 would be good as a lettermark for some uses, and #90 as the main logo for signage etc... I'd still like a stand alone image which represents us, and like the idea of then being able to use a theme from that image in the wording as a secondary trademark.
I like the concept of #90, still don't love the figures... and find with this placement it looks even more like XXX. I'm still curious to see more figures repeated forming a ring- maybe from a slightly different perspective.
#89 and #91 - concept is cool - I like the way it looks a bit like a third eye as Lauren mentioned - however i find it looks way too much like sperm ovulating an egg... especially when there's one that's a different colour. I also don't like the figure - and find it going all the way around awkward because it no longer looks like a handstand... especially since the top figure is the largest and is actually upside down - so it appears as if its someone standing up with their arms in the air. I do like the central part of it more, I'd like to see a new version of it. The shading and background in #89 looks good!
Great work so far! looking forward to working with you more!
Lauren's feedback: I just had a thought - What if you tried again for #86 but instead of having the two lines make up the person, just the line on the left and the circle for the head. This would look like the side view of a handstand and wouldn't look like a child in terms of proportions. The silhouette would be modern, slender and abstract. You could finish off the 'A' of the logo with just a solid line (like the other A)... And then maybe you could use a group of people in the silhouette version like #90 for a symbol. Brian and I are partners, but there are two other main teachers as well. You could consider using 2 people as silhouettes representing just Brian and myself, or four representing the four main teachers. If it helps at all with your inspiration, the founding team is 3 men and one woman (me). The guys are strong, powerful and big, I am very short and kind of petite...
#101 is interesting. It does speak to the 4 teachers, but I find it looks to nuclear. I expect it to be for an energy saving or IT company...
The changes to the "A" on the other designs do not work for me. I would like to see it as just the one line on the left, and the circle for the head. Thanks!! Keep up the great work! Lauren
Thanks for the updates. #118 - unfortunately the first drafts worked much better... flipping the handstand to be the right side up didn't help. Perhaps there's another pose that could work in any position? I like the eye effect the first round hand, not loving the centre of the new approach.
#99 is cool but doesnt really relate to us. I'd want to see something more yoga centric and perhaps or incorporating a figure.
Although I havent seen a figure I like yet, I think that's the approach that will end up being most effective. I'm still waiting for an updated #90 - Perhaps forget about the logo as a whole for a moment and lets try and create a figure that works? I find this one too concave - it looks too much like scissors - i'd want to see something a bit stronger, punchier. And still curious to see them standing around in a ring!
Lauren's feedback: The manadala of #112 is cool! Brian is right, unfortunately #108 doesn't work. Also, I think we need either JUST a symbol and simple script OR a cool figure incorporated script, not both.
I really don't want a person, this is where Brian and I disagree... but if you can design one we both like, my mind might change. For me it would have to be really abstract....
Brian again... I was looking at #91 and #118 again. Can you try it so that the person on top is hands down feet up - continued until the horizontal centre - and the one on the bottom is also hands down feet up (so his feet come into the centre while the one on top's hands are in the centre) and have that repeated up till the mid line. It may give it better symmetry like that. If you can also use the original central theme as much as possible.
#112 - I dont like the figure in the A. I don't find it integrates with the rest well. I also dont like the pattern in the mandala - It looks too propeller and flower like. I find these types of logos too generic and not specific enough to us. It's lacking the excitement i'm looking for.
Here's a concept that I like - I don't like the figure, or the idea of someone in lotus. Otherwise i think it works quite nicely. I'd love to see it inspire something that speaks to us. Perhaps something a little bit more modern, dynamic or vivid.
#133 Lauren's feedback: You might be on to something here... the pose is a bit feminine (as is the figure) but the overall shape works. I guess we have to wait on Brian's feedback. I would love to see you try this concept in "Scorpion yoga pose" (google that, you will get many results) Thanks for another great entry!!
#133 Thanks for listening to the request! Great first take at it! I don't love the pose, but definitely like the direction. Would love to see a few other options... make it pop a little more if possible. I'm excited to see more!!!
Definitely on an awesome direction with the new concept. I'll wait for Lauren to comment in the morning, she'll probably have requests regarding the figure. I like it but would be curious to see a slightly more abstract figure - i find the black silhouette often overused - any way of making it a bit more modern? Would also be curious to see if you can make the centre have a bit more depth to draw the eye in more - I found #91 did that well. Can you also try making the figures in a gradient going from white to the solid colour, each figure getting slightly darker. That may also give it a bit more of the dynamic movement i'm looking for.
Lauren's feedback: #134 This one speaks to us definitely! We both love this pose! I agree with Brian that it needs to be a bit more abstract. I also really don't like how the head circle is separate from the body circle. I would also like to see this have a bit more depth, but I don't want it to look overworked and complicated. I completely disagree with Brian that the center needs more. He likes things busy and intricate. I want to see something more clean and modern.
I would like to see the figures all in the same color and the words "Yoga Shala" in black. We might have a good compromise here though!
#150 and #153 - I like where it's going. I'd still like to see it pop a little more. Anyway to make it a bit more exciting? I'd like to see it have a bit more depth (if it's possible to add some 3D effects to it). Also for the colour transition i would want to see it start with the lightest shade on the bottom getting darker as it moves clockwise... as if it's building up intensity. Keep playing around and refining it, I think we may be getting close!
Thanks for the change in #91 - I would want to see the person on top flipped so his hands are down and feet up. The person on the bottom should be hands down and feet up as well. From there i would want to see the ones on the bottom moving up towards the centre and the top one moving down towards the centre. The people should be facing opposite directions on either side so it's a mirrored effect. I think it could have cool symmetry like that and would draw the eye into wards the centre.
Let me know if that makes sense or if you need any more details.
#205, #206, #211 - I like the concept, dont love the squiggles though. It works better in #205, i find #206 looks too much like a ferris wheel at an amusement park. I do like the idea of having the top guy in a different colour so the handstand stands out. Can you play with the concept a bit?
Lauren's feedback: I actually really like #213 it reminds me of me and Brian doing handstands and sharing that love with others! From far the concept looks really clean and cool and from up close there is more detail.
I like #215 as well. It might be a bit cutesie but I love the colors and the fonts! I would love to see #213 in these bright blues. I like the subtle 3D aspect of it too.
#166 is really cool too. The shading works because form far it now looks like a flower sort of symbol and from close you can tell it is people! I would still like to see the people slightly more abstract. Also, it would be great if the angle of the arms was softer or more rounded because the outer shape that the arms make reminds me of the Mercedes symbol, and I don't want people to think of a car when they see our logo ;)
I just spoke with Brian on the phone He likes #215 better than #213 because he feels that #213 is too flowery and doesn't look enough like handstands. I REALLY love the flower shape it, but he is probably right... it doesn't look quite enough like handstands unless you know it it. Do you think there is a way to make it more handstand looking so it is more obvious, but from far still maintains that really cool shape that you have?
I still really like #215, but find it a little too abstract. The way it is it's not obvious that its people in handstands - so i'm afraid our audience won't see it - in which case it's just some random design. Can you tweak it a little making it more obvious that its 2 people in handstands... maybe a little less squiggly also?
#215 Lauren & Brian: Hi Brian and I are on the phone now. We both agree that we LOVE the font. we LOVE the colors. We LOVE the approach, but the figures are not quite human enough. It is almost there... so close! We would like to see something still abstract, but more identifiable as handstands.
Sorry for the late respond. T'day is sunday and i was outside with my family. I've read all your comments and i'll work on now. I'll submit new submissions asap:)
