I think in general the simpler line (more abstract) is preferred. But don't restrict yourself creatively if you have any ideas that might not be as simple.

We are liking #196 a lot. One of the uses of the logo will be embroidered on shirts. We're concerned that the lines are too fine on the art work. Can you think of a version that might be easier to reproduce in that medium?

That didn't work, too simplistic as it looks more porpoise than manatee. The cape looks almost like a fin. Thanks for trying.

Excellent. The one concern we had is the IT is reading a little like "it". Is there a way to set it apart. Maybe change the color or something else?

yes you can have vertical & horizontal verison, including grayscale and black verison as long they are the same design. I will let you know the font after the handover complete.
