My only question is - does this make it look like Michigan is the junior instead of it being Junior Iron Chef - in Michigan

I see your point...so its Michigan...Junior Iron Chef or can it be MICHIGAN...IRON CHEF Jr.? Is the first the official name? or is it still a contest in the making?

Let's stick with "Junior Iron chef" or "Jr Iron Chef". Michigan is where this competition covers. It is fine to use the Michigan state shape instead of writing out the name. It is just starting this year.

So both the current #1 and #2 would need to move the Jr. from the end to the front. The map outline on number three doesn't really look like Michigan...

No one has done anything to emphasize the "local food" aspect.

We don't need both the word Michigan and the outline of the state.

Simple is good. So it will translate to all media....
