Generally, I really like this design because of the 3-d feel to it. I think the "hiding" of the psi is also creative. I'm not sure how I would improve it, but it's not my first choice.

Oh. Maybe introducing another color such as "gold"?

And...I think "Maryland" is far too prominent. I would reduce the spacing between letters.

I like the spacing much better on this one. However, the gold coloring seems a bit too brown for me.
