What We Do
For over 25 years, a focused, not-for-profit agency taking on the ancient Jewish imperative to heal the world: helping families, Jewish and non-Jewish, who need guidance, support or aid when they are facing a crisis, a high hurdle, a new phase or an unfamiliar situation including children, students, parents, singles; the unemployed, the elderly, the disabled.

Non-Profit
Color Preferences
While there are no specific color requirements, the colors (and the entire design, for that matter) should contribute to a sense of both:

COMPETENCE (these people are modern and professional; they CAN help me).

WARMTH (these people are not cold, bureaucratic or judgmental; they will relate to me and be sympathetic to my situation).
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Please note that when a prospective client sees our logo and other branded materials, they are probably in in a difficult state. The logo needs to communicate that this is not your grandmother's charity group, but an organized team of trained, degreed professionals who are here to help. The point here is that we do not want "We are the World" and treacly; at the same time we do not want cold and corporate.

While the idea of "Jewish" is not to be hidden, we want to attract those who need us who are not Jewish. So, the Jewish aspect is not to be visually reinforced (i.e., no Star of David, no religious symbols).

There is nothing about the current logo that needs to be retained. (Especially, avoid the candle/flame symbolism.)

There are JFS organizations all over the world. Ours serves only southern CT and very small parts of NY. Our logo need have no relationship with any of these other groups.

Current website (soon to be redesigned): http://ctjfs.org.

IMPORTANT: This assignment is actually for two related logos. The second is for the JFS Home Companion program. (That is the official name for logo #2: JFS Home Companion). It is a service targeted to 45-65+ adults who need hourly companions to stay with and help their parents with day-to-day needs. (For details, see http://ctjfs.org/?page_id=17).

1. It is not necessary to include "of CT" in the logo. Sorry we did not make that clear.
2. The phrase "Because sometimes a family needs a little help" may be in the logo lock-up but the logo must be complete without it.
3. Please remember that the communication is primarily about "experienced, responsive and competent professionals."

1. Our organization services both Jewish and non-Jewish clientele. Research shows that if we over-communicate the Jewish message, non-Jewish people who need our help may not realize that we have great programs and experienced professionals to help them. So, submissions with Judaic symbols are not going to be ideal for us.

2. We do not want to reiterate in the visual, ideas that are inherent in the words in our name (Jewish, Family and Service). So what DO we want to say? Please take another look at our communication goals to get an idea of what the viewer should come away with.

3. Keep in mind that the person who we want to impact with this logo - the one we hope will call us for help - is probably in a somewhat emotional state and is looking for someone to HELP...someone who knows what they're doing and who knows what needs to be done to fix things and get their life on track.
