Color Preferences
not sure, but, the colors red, orange, yellow anchored with darker subtext could be a player. I am really open to see what comes back through competition, but, I am not married to anything with too many colors because of planned branding and establishing creative use in other visual mediums (i.e. embroidery, web, print, web etc.)
Our Ideas and Additional Information:
I have a drawing and brief planned business overview that I would like all participants to see. It can be sent via email by contacting me at chefsoul1@comcast.net. Basically I want to see the name "holy smoke" and I would like to see the final logo underscored or associated with a music stanza that has a couple scattered musical notes and the words "bar", "restaurant" & "bbq" as part of the music stanza. Perhaps an artist's graphic of a halo or smoke effect can be part of the final design (but you will see this in the scanned drawing I will share with all contestants). Too much can be lost in intricacies so if the smoke or halo does not work it is no great loss. There can be a whimsy to the logo, but, it must be easily read from a distance and not lost in something as small as an embroidered piece or letterhead. We will have corporate, municipal and federal clients, so I do want a logo that is recognizable, but, not too ostentatious to be boardroom or easily baby shower to meet our private party and and event clients perception.

Diamond Contest
We're sorry, but this contest is presently open to a limited pool of designers.
I am not a fan of anything framed or colored background. I would like to see the logo above all standing alone. Frames and backgrounds in my belief take away from the prominence of clean design work and logo/branding. chefsoul1 1.10.09
ufotofu! Totally get's what I'm trying to do here, but, I want you all to see my drawing...I need to establish or underscore the presence of music because it is a big part of what we do. the drawing will help you see my thoughts and perhaps a creative beginning for your efforts. we can have a third color...i.e. the halo could be more yellow or gold (tranfers terrible on a white chef jacket or bright letter head, but you get what I am saying...I think) or..there may be no halo at all! Great stuff so far and I am really excited about the process. to see drawing and business overview email me at chefsoul1@comcast.net
Hopefully anyone considering entering this competition has read through the entire contest brief. Please email me at chefsoul1@comcast.net if there are ANY questions or communication. I know the process does not work if I am not actively engaging artists and I have a drawing to send that represents some of the elements I have envisioned in the final design.
Great entries so far. We like them all. I will be away from all internet access Monday and Tuesday. I will be back online Wednesday and engaging all contestants then. Thanks for your interest in our contest. chefsoul1 1.11.09
we have a pig mascot drawing that may be of use. We did not want it to be a central focus and actually it is planned to be used as a side character instead of in our main brand, but, who knows? Please email me at chefsoul1@comcast.net if you want to take a shot at featuring "Soul" our smooth jazz mascot in your entries.
You folks are making this tough...there are few designs that we do not like and I can only imagine how tough the decision making will be next week. Great work people...Thanx!
