Discussion

nong, thanks for the submissions. #15 eliminated because the keyhole in the "O" doesn't really resonate.

#8 - simple is good. the "i" definitely is thin... but... it's all too simple yet and not at all feminine. I've looked at your winning designs and like a lot of them. Chicago Photo Safaris, for example, is really brilliant - perfect safari colors, words leap out unambiguously, starting at the dot in chicago and going to the arrow on safari... and with the line as a camera! Fantastic.

I have no idea what you'd do with Get Thin Forever, but I'm certain you could make something really terrific that grabs attention and looks slim, curvy and feminine while not scaring off the guys.

Thanks for the feedback, Bill!
Hope you like this new concept (cutting fabric; thin women use less fabric)

Of these, really only #35 does anything for me - you've got a curvy body hiding in the H which is cool. However, it took several looks and a little head scratching to figure it out, so it's not obvious enough.

I'll admit I didn't figure out "scissors" and "dotted line" => less fabric => you're getting thinner. I don't think that's going to resonate with my target audience.

I'd encourage you to look beyond a heavy sans serif and consider a curvy graphic element. Your work has some very interesting logos in it, but I'm not sure the current direction is going to do it. For example, things like your "The Lifestyle Baby Photographer" or "iFreeStyle" or "ONE Photo" or "Down Under Travel" or "Snap Happy" or "Innovation Pipeline" or "KLF Legal" or "lead4ward" or the afore-mentioned "Chicago Photo Safaris" all have an arresting graphic element that really complements the word treatment.

Think feminine.

For example, the kangaroo you did for Down Under is really cool. A simple thin, curvy line could be visually arresting and get across "thin body".

Hope that helps!

re: #62 - Bingo!

The graphic element is excellent. Stop there for a moment and let's work on the rest.

1) Try graphic on the left, words on the right (or vice versa), with the words stacked "GET THIN" / "FOREVER" similar to what you have in #35. The reason is the words are so much smaller that its hard to read.

2) Although I intellectually like the concept of the characters getting thinner and thinner, it leaves "FOREVER" too light for such a permanent sounding word. If you want to continue to roll with that concept, you can make "THIN" get thinner all by itself, with FOREVER back to normal (or even heavy weight).

3) Now that you've got the difficult aspect of the graphic settled, can you add back some color?

4) As far as the graphic itself - very nice as-is. Might need to shorten up the legs a bit when its by the the side of the words, and potentially make it a bit bolder to stand out given its relative decrease in size.

Thanks for sticking with it! Your leaping lady really hit it!

Here are the variations

Thanks. It looks like I was wrong - it's better to have her on top of the words. You read my mind with variation #71. (It literally popped up on the screen when I was writing this comment and refreshed the window!)

However, the words need to stand out more than in #62. Perhaps make her smaller, words bigger.

Forever definitely needs to be a heavy weight - the light one just doesn't work.

Not sold on the thinning "THIN". I'd like to see one with a single-weight "THIN".

Re: #71 - she needs to be a bit higher and very slightly bigger - psychologically, the viewer needs to *know* that she'll successfully leap over the words. Right now, it looks like she might crash into the words. Make the FOREVER a different color than "GET THIN"

Re: #62 - would like to see a variation of this one with words on a single line with more prominent words so they stand out. As with 71, make FOREVER a different color.

Voila, you produced #72 while I was writing the above. Nicely done.

Thanks. I can't decide between #73 and #75 - I put one up in the top10 but they're both very nice. #74 is definitely not as strong as #75 - 75 is much more dynamic.

I know there needs to be some color tweaks - it's a little drab at the moment - but my brain is tired and I need to look at these fresh tomorrow.

Let me working on the color.

Re: #84. Sorry, didn't like the colors.

Try designing against either a white or darker (even black) background. You're designing against a very tough blue.

Although your leaping lady graphic currently elevates this to the top, the colors of most of the other designs are stronger.

Note that I'm happy to tweak my website colors a bit (especially the background) to better fit the logo. You don't have to pull directly from my palette. I do want blue and green, and think white and yellow are good, but there's a lot of leeway there.

I need a palette that really hangs together well and "pops" off the page. Currently, your palettes have some internal clashes that I find hard to describe, having no formal training, but I definitely can see. They're also a little drab, just sitting on the page.

Re: #98 - thanks for all the color variations! Colors at this point are good enough. It's something I'll probably end up tweaking myself to mesh perfectly into the final destination.

Last thing to strengthen to maintain the top spot are the fonts - the ones here are pretty generic looking. Most of the other designs have more interesting font selections. Could you take some time to select stronger, more interesting fonts? I'm looking for a couple of carefully selected alternatives that a) are easy to read and "pop", b) are somewhat interesting, and c) don't detract from the femininity.

Congratulations! All 4 of the top entries were really strong, and we had a hard time making the final decision - but yours definitely caught the attention of the focus group. It stood out, had an immediate appeal, and was far and away the most elegant design. I also think it'll lend itself to some spectacular animation treatments in our videos.

For the final delivery, please provide (in addition to the EPS with text converted to outlines) a second copy with text left as editable text. Tell me the name of the font and where it comes from if its not a stock Adobe font.

If you're willing (and I know this is beyond the terms of the original brief) I'd love a variation of the figure that is somewhat more masculine. The majority of the time we'd use the figure as-is to appeal to the 84% of our market that's women, but I'd love a slightly beefier, masculine version. You can obviously say no, but I think you'd do a *much* better job of doing that than I would! Let me know, either way.
