Hi, please find my entry for your project attached. I've taken your boot drawing and slightly changed the smaller boot as requested. I've made it look more masculine by widening the ankle a bit and giving the back of the calf a slightly muscular shape. I've also added tread to the sole of the boot.
As your main element is a hand-drawn illustration, I wanted to keep this nice, friendly, informal, but professional feel, so I used a handwriting for and placed it at an angle sitting under the drawing. I also underlined it to make it almost signature like - again adding that personal touch. The colors are a nice earthy brown and a vibrant grass green color - both of which would look fantastic on a T-shirt or mug - would also look great on a letterhead.
All in all I think the font, colors and illustration all sit really well together creating an effective design for you. Please let me know if you'd like to see any changes.
Yes.. like what you've done with the smaller boot very much!
We have liked the entries with the treads not being black.. keeping it not so heavy.. but what you have done gives it a great 3-dimensional look. Anyway to soften that a bit so the sole of that boot isn't so intense?
Also like the "Field Day, Inc.", and that's it underlined.. but the "F" and the "D" .. guess they just don't look like they way we would write those letters.. maybe too "squished" for us. ???
The green is fun, but we would go more with browns. You've just done a great job with that smaller boot! Thanks!
Also.. comparing your number #105 to some of the other entries.. we're liking the smaller boot being a bit larger than how we originally had it drawn. Obviously, the smaller it is the more it shows the step being taken, but I think we would like it just a bit larger than what you have.
Hi guys, thanks for the great feedback. New version attached. I've made the front boot bigger and very slightly moved it's postition to keep it in perspective. I've used two shades of brown instead of the green. Opened up the F and D a lot more and gave all the text a bit more space. Also softened the impact of the boot sole by putting it in two shades of brown rather than the harsh white - it still has that 3D effect you liked before. Let me know if I can make any other changes for you. Thanks. BMF
I like #107. We're just more "sold" on the treads having no color. Seems to give the touch of whimsy that we're after.. but the treads still give it the masculine look. We won't print this up on anything white.. so whatever color we have as our background on mugs or t-shirts will also be on the treads.. so it will never be that stark white.
Any way you can make the heel treads on that smaller boot not quite so pronounced? Maybe just not so much "high heel" there.
Actually.. the more I look at it.. I think the size of boot #108 is better. Hard to decide!!! (Any chance on a compromise between #107and #108?) I keep flip-flopping as I look at it. Use your judgment. Thanks!
Looking at all the entries. Although I really like what you're doing with the smaller boot.. the larger boot seems to be so up and down, that I'm losing the feel of the movement. I really like the original angle that Gary had on that boot. I'm feeling like this guy is walking a bit pigeon-toed or something. Can you slant his bit boot back like he had it. Thanks! Getting really picky here.. but seeing the clock ticking.
Hi, no problem, changes as requested. Smaller boot scaled to between number 107 & 108. Fixed the angle on the back boot. Fixed the color on the tread. Reduced the size of the tread on the small boot's heel. Let me know if i can do anything else for you. THanks. BMF
Yes! Like it. (#112) You've done a great job making that left leg look better too. I think the heel of that left boot should be pulled in. When I look at the entries over all, it just has a better flow to me if the guys heels are coming more in toward each other.
thanks for making the treads white. It's looking really good.
I love #118. I think (and think Gary would too) that the "Field Day, Inc." should be in the dark brown. And if I could put just one finishing touch on it.. I would put just a bit more of a "tail" on that "D".. so that the bottom curve of the D goes beyond the straight line of the D.. like it is at the top of the D, but not quite so much.
You've had a great eye in making the smaller boot more masculine. Thanks!!!
No probs, new version attached. Let me know if you need anything else. This has been a nice project to be involved in, keeping my finger crossed. :-)
Don't worry about asking for changes - it's great as a designer to have a client who is so involved in the project - it helps to get exactly what you want.
Okay, I really like your handwriting. Now looking at it (trying to with fresh eyes.. which gets hard!!) the "Inc." is big, and the "Field" is more cramped together. Since the "Field" is a pun on our last name, which is "Fields", seems like that should be more dominant, and the "Inc." could be the word that gets a bit more squished.
Hi, how's this looking now? I've made the Field very slightly bolder than the rest. Also, the Inc is now smaller and less significant - Field stands out more dominantly now. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks.
I don't think the lettering needs to be more bold.. so keep Field and Day the same. Like it that Inc. is a bit smaller, but don't make it too obvious. And please put a comma after Field Day.
I just get the feeling that the i is so close to the F.. and those letters in "Field" are realy tight compared to the rest of the lettering.
Hi, no probs. How's this? Same weight of font, made the inc very slightly bigger but still smaller than the rest. Added a comma (sorry, never notced that part). BMF
From my public post: August 17th, 2009, 3:13pmI've mentioned this before, and will give it one more go. I'd like to see some of the latest updates, but with coloring similar to what tridoso did in #86 and Jen&mary in #35. Both ankle rings on the big boot are black, but there is the lighter color in-between them to set them apart.
Thanks again to all. I really truly appreciate those of you who have constantly worked to keep refining and defining what we like! It's been really fun and exciting for us!
Hi, sorry I never saw your posting earlier, but I don't get any notifications when the posting is public, only when it's a comment on my designs does it tell me you've been in touch. I've made the changes - there's a few versions using brown or black. Added the extra stripe and also colored the tab on the back in a couple of them. Let me know if there's anything else you need. It's 11.10pm in the UK just now, so I'll be online for another half hour, after that if I don't respond straight away, I can make any changes tomorrow morning and upload for you. Speak soon. derek
