#44 like the retro feel of this but not sure on reproduction the wheels - the car may be a little to classic. Like the car in #51 and #40 . The use of the Octagon in #36 is interesting

Hello xargle,

Thanks for the feedback. Funny thing is that I had originally done solid wheels, but then my thinking was, hey these guys will all know their cars, better put the spokes on. :D The most difficult part of reproducing would be the low resolution images you see here on the contest page. In term of printing, keep in mind that you can get more detail and higher resolution than what the eye sees on a computer monitor. I understand that it is a concern, but as I tell my other clients: think of a photo on a brochure or book and you can get a good feel of what sort of detail can be printed. As you may have seen in my profile, I also own a printshop. With today technologies, print concerns we used to have have all but fade.

I was not sure which year model to focus on, my personal favorites are the late 50's - early 60s MGA's, but I did want to throw in a MG Midget style, for the more traditionalists. I'll try an MGA profile too.

As for the octagan, I pulled several version from the contest after reading the brief comments. I imagine you meant that you do not want the Octagon WITH the MG. In other words not to use the MG logo, correct? My use of the octagon was to reference the MG brand, without infringing on the MG logo itself. As I have used it, there is no issue with MG, as the entire logo is copyrighted, but an octagon itself cannot be trademarked.

If you have any changes you would like to see, or color suggestions, just let me know.

Cheers!

Hi thanks for the reference photos. Are these photos I can use? (I would need your permission to use them if you own the rights to the photos). If not, do you happen to have a reference that I may use directly from the photo?

I could create a profile photo based on these photos easily enough, but I would have to freehand the illustration in another angle, if you would like to see a 3/4 view. Let me know which you prefer.

Thanks again.

Hello,

I submitted a few new versions. Do you have a color preference? I tried a few with a traditional British Racing Green. Is the club just for MG's? The reason I'm asking is that maybe I'm getting too focused on MG's. Please let me know. I can make the car more generic to encompass other british motors if you like.

Cheers.

Macelo,

#68 like this think its strong enough to do without hard top and octagon flag, like the mix of colours on the font.

#65 again without the hardtop and just fill the "o" instead of octagon

#64 without the swoosh fill the "o" with the flag, nice font

#73 very classical the Octagon border is to thin (applies to all, line weight needs to be thicker) nice to have some thought outside the car motif. Although Im guilty of putting them at the top in the rankings

Thanks for all the hardwork MG made some very pretty cars they do sort of draw you in

Hello again,

Thank you for the ranking. Please let me know if you would also like to see a B&W version of any of the logos, since we usually include them anyway. Also, I checked around locally, and there is an MG car club locally which meet this Wednesday just a few miles away. If there is another MG model, you may want to see, then I can take a few good reference photos at the meet. :)

"Thanks for the new ideas none have shaken our love of the #118, #119 and #120"

They are still my favorites too, but since I already had them I figured I'd submit them.
I have really developed a passion for these MGA's now, they have really beautiful lines.

Cheers!

Hi,

Seeing that my previous number one fell out of favor, it was back to the drawing board. I'm still keeping the same feel as the designs I started with, but added a new version of the car. BTW - the car is made with a reference photo which is 100% mine so there should be not be any concern of copyright infringement (source photo available). I uploaded some color versions even though you are leaning towards B&W simply because, we are required to supply the client with a B&W version regardless, so it make sense to do a color version since you will end up with more bang for your buck. :) If there is anything thing else you may want to see changed, such as different color, feel free to ask.

BTW - I also submitted a hand sketched version which has more of an old style feel.

Thanks.

First of all great set of new designs as you can see we still highly rate the #119 MGA. Let me explain our thinking to the overnight re-ranking after some new design submissions it was felt the design we placed at number 1 was a better reflection of the lifestyle part of the brief. It was put best by one of my colleagues "this one reflects a lifestyle #119 reflects a hobby" this may be the car or the different style.

Re the new designs (and we take on board the info about copyright) The car is beautiful! like the MGA

#155 #157 #158 The car is to "static" this may be the current line above the wording. Much as it pains me to say it the car is just to detailed - capturing the essence is more where we want to be. On #155 the Font just seems to be out of proportion/to large

#160 Looks a little more dynamic but does not quite hint at movement, like how it sits on the line compared to #159. #160 The grey mud guards don't work, hatching instead?

The car essence is somewhere between #160 and #159 using the way its sits on the line of #160.

Hello,

I used a lower angle photo here. I would need t take another photo if you want it lower angled still. I removed much more of the detail, but your right, I tend to overemphasize accuracy. Because these car club member know their cars, I wanted to make sure that those that know don't point out the inaccuracies. :) Also, as an architecture and technical drawing major in college, I like my illustrations to show accurate perspective, I get a bit obsessed when things look out of plane, like the image was made of two different halves of a car. I would love to own a few of Picasso's paintings, but they would drive me crazy. LOL.

Anyway, let me know if there is anything else, I can change to even simpler lines, again, just let me know. Also regarding the line under the car, that can easily be moved up or down.

Thanks.

#162 Just a touch more simple lose the detail on the wheels make it like #160 same with the bumper . Lose the grey fade to make it dual line heavier white.

Appreciate what you saying about the car nuts nuts but we want to convey a feeling and stimulate a little conversation. I guess I'm saying forget your accuracy go with the flow its an essence of a car the grill change is a nice example of less is more

#162 grey fad on front also makes it look foggy!

I noticed that fade too, I toned it down in the last submission. I would need a few minutes to make the other suggestions. But In order to submit now that the contest is in judging mode, I would need to be temporarily placed in first (only first rank can submit changes during "judging"). Once uploaded you can always rerank as you please.

Please let me know and I'll make your suggested changes. :)

Thanks

#169 like the drop in detail the grey tone on the wing is not right for me, makse the far wing look odd. Would prefer to have it just some heavier line weights without any grey to define front wing. Also bumper at the far wheel either seems odd optical illusion? #167 tempt me not but very nice

Got it, give me a minute. :)

I tried three more with different variances in line weight and also remove some sheen also tried with only leading edge of fender with thicker line. With the bumper I noticed that it was an optical illusion (part of the issue is that these uploads are so low resolution) either way, I tried some variances on the bumper also, so that it does not look like it's not angled parallel to the front f the car. If you still feel it's off, I can adjust it more or even give the car a smaller bumper which was also available on MG's.

Thanks.

#171 its the bumper it over whelms it now could you drop the white fill and show as a outline, that should bring out the grill and move the focus up

Hi again,

I had to pull some of the designs with the MG TD because it just sold. :) By site rules I cannot have a similar existing design on LT as this would be a violation of the rules. However I kept the MGA designs, which I can redraw in full 3/4 view if you still still want would like to see it, I just have to change to layout a bit. I am currently working on a version anyway, so It would be no problem to include it if you like.

Thanks again.

Macelo,

Thanks for taking part sorry it did not work out, with the withdrawal of the TD it made the final judgement easier. The illustrations are all superb and I cannot fault the accuracy of any of them it was in the end not quite where we wanted to be but I appreciate how much effort "above and beyound" went into this competition

No problem.

Of course I figured we had a problem when the design direction of some of the designers completely changed after you placed the MGA in first. From the use of an actual MG T, to also trying a 3/4 view on an MG, right down to tapering the line under the car. :( Unfortunately that's what happens with sites like this. It becomes follow the leader and ultimately our logos were almost identical.

Going to the MG meet the other day worked out favorably for me. Even though it was an internal gathering of the MG Club members, it turns out that most did not take their cars to the dinner. But I met several of them and they showed an interest in seeing what I was doing. I mentioned that I was doing it for a contest so I intended that you get first stab at it. Seeing I dropped 20 places in rank on Saturday, I felt confident that I was out, so I sold it, before it would be too late... and at regular price. :)

Now here's the funny part; because most of the cars were not at this MG club dinner, some of the members said I can take photos of their cars on the weekend. I knew that would be too late, so on my way back to my car I just happened to look down the hill and spot a familiar front end sticking out from behind an auto repair shop. This is what I found and the basis for my illustration http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=14t7x3k&s=5 It's no "best in show", but that's all I needed. What are the chances???

Anyway, best of luck.
